On 6 th April, 2024, the Department of Community Health Nursing, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Niyati Das, Principal, KINS observed World Health Day 2024 with the theme “My Health, My Right.” The goal of the event was to raise awareness about health and human rights, promote preventive healthcare, and advocate for access to quality care.
The day commenced with a formal meeting organized at KIMS auditorium in the presence of the students and faculties of KINS. Welcome address was given by Prof. Kalyani Rath, Vice-Principal, KINS which was followed by a keynote address by Dr. Anasuya Pattnayak, HOD Dept. of CHN, KINS.
This session was followed by a guest lecture by an eminent speaker Dr. Shiji P.J, Professor, Father Muller College of Nursing, Mangalore who delivered informative and thought-provoking lecture on various health-related topics. The lecture covered a wide range of subjects, including the importance of the theme, addressing current health priorities, preventive healthcare measures, mental health awareness, nutrition, and the importance of physical activity. Participants had the opportunity to interact with the speaker, ask questions, and gain valuable insights into leading a healthier lifestyle.
Followed by this a lively and interactive quiz competition was held to test participants’ knowledge about global health issues, diseases, medical breakthroughs, and healthcare systems. All the teams enthusiastically competed against each other, showcasing their understanding of health-related facts and statistics. The quiz not only served as an educational tool but also fostered a spirit of healthy competition among participants.
In a creative twist, a state level reel competition was organized to encourage participants to express their perspectives on health and wellness through short video clips. Participants were tasked with creating engaging and informative reels that highlighted the importance of staying active, eating nutritious foods, maintaining mental well-being, and adopting healthy habits. Approximately 50 reels from all over the state were judged based on creativity, clarity of message, and overall impact by Prof. Sushanta Bahinipati, Associate Professor, Cinematography, School of Film and Media Science KIIT, DU and Dr. Anima Rout, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, KIMS, KIIT DU, BBSR.
All MSc. Nursing, BSc Nursing 4th year, GNM 3rd year, and 1st year students attended the program. Prizes were distributed among winners of the both quiz competition and reel competition. Mrs. Soumya Sonalika, Asso. Professor, KINS proposed vote of thanks. It was a very unique way of observing World Health Day among the Nursing Community as well as for the society.
