On 28 June 2025, the Department of Mental Health Nursing at Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT-DU, Bhubaneswar, organized the “International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking” at the KIDS Auditorium.
The GNM 2nd-year students role-played a scenario in the lobby area of KIMS during the first session to raise awareness among the public.
The second session then began with Dr. V. Sivasankari, HOD of the department, unfolding the theme: “Evidence is clear: Invest in prevention — Break the cycle. #StopOrganizedCrime”, which aimed to raise global awareness and strengthen international cooperation in combating the multifaceted challenges of drug abuse and illegal drug trafficking.
MSc. 1st-year students from the Department of Mental Health Nursing—Miss Krithika Sah, Miss Purba Das, Miss Kuheli Mondol, Miss Jyotirmayee Parida, and Miss Megha Manna—successfully conducted a panel discussion, moderated by Miss Tithi Bose, as the first program of the second session with the theme Evidence is clear: Invest in prevention—Break the cycle. #StopOrganizedCrime” . Additionally, a quiz competition was successfully conducted among BSc. 6th-semester and GNM 2nd-year students, with the theme “Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking” .
This event was observed to raise awareness of the widespread health,social, and economic impacts of drug abuse, strengthen international cooperation, and promote evidence-based prevention, treatment, and enforcement strategies to create a drug-free world .
After the sessions, vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Reena Singh, Asst. Prof , Dept Of Mental Health Nursing.
