Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), a constituent under KIIT-Deemed-to-be- University observed National Nurses Week from 7 th May to 11 th May 2024. Being a nurse is the beacon of light in someone's darkness. With the aim to encourage the student nurses for entering into the profession to reach out their hands to light, to pull others hands into the light, lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony was organized for both B.Sc nursing and GNM (2023 admitted batches) students on dt.10.05.2024. Lamp lighting ceremony is an auspicious day for every nurse's life, with reference to Miss Florence Nightingale. “The lady with Lamp” who is the founder of modern nursing.
The International Nurses Day Celebration for 2024 was held at the KIIT Auditorium. The event was organized to honor and appreciate the dedication and hard work of nurses, with a focus on the theme “Our Nurses Our Future: The Economic Power of Care” The celebration commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp symbolizing enlightenment and auspiciousness followed by a melodious welcome song performed by students set a vibrant tone for the event.
Prof. (Dr.) Niyati Das, Principal of KINS, delivered the welcome address, extending warm greetings to all attendees and highlighting the significance of celebrating nurses and their contributions to healthcare.
Professional guest, Mrs. Khulana Barik, Florence Nightingale Awardee was felicitated for her outstanding service during super cyclone and Covid 19 Pandemic. Mrs. Barik then shared her insights and experiences in a heartfelt address, emphasizing the pivotal role of nurses in society.
Prof. (Dr.) Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar emphasized on importance of perception of nurses and motivated all nursing student and staff to take this profession as their passion. The day was observed with a central theme “Our nurses, our future: The economic power of care.’’
On the day of Celebration, AVM Prof (Dr.) R.C. Das, MS, PBMH, KIMS, KIIT DU, Bhubaneswar, Brig (Prof.) AP. Mohanty, Dean & Principal, School of Medicine, KIIT DU, Dr. CBK Mohanty, Pro Vice-Chancellor, School of Medicine, KIIT DU, Dr. Jiyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT DU, Bhubaneswar conveyed their appreciation for critical role of nurses in shaping the future of healthcare system.
The event included the release of the college magazine "KARA," showcasing achievements and contributions within the Nursing community. Prize distribution was conducted by guests to all the winners of different competitions like face painting, hair design, dance, song, poem recitation, mono-action, and literary contest which were held between May 7 and May 10 to celebrate National Nurses Week.
Mrs. Gitanjali Mohanta, NS PBMH, KIMS, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, and attendees for making the event a success. The celebration concluded with the KIIT Anthem, reflecting the institution's spirit and commitment to excellence in nursing education and healthcare. The programme was anchored by Asso. Professor Soumya Sonalika and Nilam Mishra.
