Perinatal asphyxia is an important preventable cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity, and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is the most effective tool to reduce perinatal asphyxia. To develop hands on skill and attitude among students in basic neonatal procedure, Indian academy of pediatrics conducted a workshop for nursing students. Total 100 participants from Bsc Nursing
6 th semester and M.Sc in Child health Nursing and OBG nursing specialty students and faculties were divided in to three groups. Prior this workshop, they had cleared the online NRP program and got eligible to attend this workshop. So it conducted on 7 th ,13 th and 16 th august 2024 for three groups. This was smoothly carried by BNRP trainers i.e. Mrs Purnima Sahoo, Asso.Prof., Dept. of Child Health Nursing, KINS, Mrs Anusuya Behera, Asst. Prof., Dept. of O &G Nursing, KINS, KIIT deemed to be University, Dr. Prasant Kumar Saboth, State IAP coordinator, Dr. Asha Prakash Mohapatra, Captal Hospital, Bubaneswar, Mrs Rubi Pradhan, Asso. Prof., Dept. of Child Health Nursing, SUM college of Nursing and Mrs Manisha Praharaj, Asst. Prof.,Dept. of Child Health Nursing, SUM college of Nursing, SOA deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar. They formed four stations with checklists on skills like preparation for birth, routine care, initial steps, brief ventilation and prolonged ventilation with normal heart rate. Each station they brief on procedure, gave demonstration and took return demonstration from each participants. They interacted with groups and clarified their doubts. This workshop was indeed successful by inculcating a much needed skills among students. At the end, certificates were distributed to participants.
