“Optimizing Antimicrobial Use to Prevent Antimicrobial Resistance in Newborns” with this theme for the year 2024, department of Child Health Nursing, KINS observed National Newborn Week (15 – 21st November) on  November 21, 2024 at KIMS Auditorium from 2 pm to 5 pm. Approximately 3.5 million babies are born prematurely in India, and one million newborns are discharged from Special Newborn Care Units (SNCUs) annually. The risk of death, stunting, and developmental delay is still very significant for these newborns. So it states the importance of newborn care.

The program started with a energized welcome dance by the students of BSc Nursing 5th semester.Welcome address was delivered by Prof. Asokan R, HOD of Medical Surgical Nursing & In-charge of R&D ,KINS. The theme was discussed by Dr. Pratap Kumar Jena , Associate Professor, KIIT School of Public Health. It was followed by an insightful discussion on “Hypoglycaemia & Hypocalcaemia by Dr. Santosh Kumar Panda, Professor, Neonatologist, HOD NICU, KIMS. Mr.Himanshu Sekhar Pradhan Associate Professor & Dr.Ramya Pinnamaneni, Director of KIIT School of Public Health, both shared their expertise on “India’s Action Plan on AMR”. The last talk session was taken on “Navjaat Shishu Suraksha Karyakramby Dr. Asha Prakash Mohapatra, Assistant Professor, PGIMER & Capital Hospital Bhubaneswar. All the speakers were felicitated. On this occasion, a mime show competition was organised among students on the theme of “ Home based Newborn Care”.It was a mesmerizing performance. It was judged by Prof.(Dr.)Anasuya Pattanayak, HOD community health Nursing, KINS, KIIT DU and by Dr. Asha Prakash Mohapatra, Assistant Professor,  PGIMER & Capital Hospital. After this winner group was awarded with certificates and prizes by esteem guests. This session was indeed informative. It was attended by around 320 number of audience belonging to GNM 2nd year, 5th & 7th semester of B.Sc. Nursing, 1st & 2nd year M.Sc. Nursing and faculties of KINS. The event was successfully concluded by proposing a vote of thanks by Mrs. Purnima Sahoo, Asso. Professor KINS, KIIT DU.
