“Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems” with this theme for the year 2025, Child Health Nursing department of KINS celebrated World Breast Feeding Week 2025 from 1st August to 7th August 2025. This was attended by GNM 2nd year, B.Sc Nursing 6th semester, MSc Nursing 1st year and 2nd year including KINS faculties. On 1st august, a workshop was conducted on “Facility based Newborn Care (FBNBC) and Essential Newborn Care (ENBC)” at KIMS auditorium from 2 pm onwards. The celebration started with lamp lighting, a magnificent classical welcome dance and a keynote address by Prof.(Dr.) Niyati Das, Principal, KINS. For this workshop, eminent speaker was Dr. Jagdish Prasad Sahoo, Additional Professor Neonatology, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar who shared the knowledge enriched with evidence based practice in a very effective manner. The effectiveness of this session was assessed by pre-test and post-test response. Continuing this celebration, on 2nd august, a workshop on Integrated management of Neonatal & Childhood Illness (IMNC) was conducted at KIMS auditorium from 2pm onwards. This session was taken by Dr.Alpana Mishra, Professor, department of community medicine, KIMS, Bhubaneswaer. This session was indeed informative which was evaluated by pre-test & post-test response along with feedback.
On 4th August at 9 am to 5 pm, with the motive of disseminating hands-on training skills, a CNE was organised by 1st year and 2nd year MSc Nursing (O& G Nursing specialty, Child Health Nursing, Community Health Nursing & Mental Health Nursing specialty) in Child Health Nursing lab and OBG lab of KINS on essential aspects like Antenatal assessment, Postntal assessment, Neonatal resuscitation, Essential Newborn care, Labour management and Partograph. Each station was equipped with av aids and checklist. All BSc Nursing 6th semester and GNM 2nd year students group wise attended in this workshop. As a part of activity based learning, a Congenital disorder file exhibition was organized by BSc Nursing 6th semester students on 5th august at Child Health Nursing Lab at 11 am to 1 pm. This was evaluated by Prof.(Mrs.) Kalyani Rath, Vice Principal, HOD, Obstestrics and Gynecological Nursing, KINS. On 7th august, Msc 1st year and 2nd year Child health Nursing conducted an in-service education for nursing officers working in pediatric and OBG department with the theme of “Every Baby Counts: A Holistic Approach to Zero Separation, Breastfeeding & Kangaroo Mother Care” at the Pediatric Ward Demo Room, KIMS Hospital. The celebration of Breastfeeding Week concluded on a successful note, marked by enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and healthcare professionals.
