KINS observed World Thalassemia Day on 8th march 20024 with theme “Empowering Lives, Embracing Progress:Equitable and Accessible Thalassemia Treatment for all” . Aim of the program was to bring awareness among People.Program was inaugurated in the presence of Prof(Dr.)Niyati das, Principal, KINS,KIIT (DU), Bhubaneswar.Dr.Palash Dash, Asso. Prof. KIMS, PBMH and Dr. Biswajit Bhuyan Asst. Prof. KIMS, PBMHS.

Welcome address was proposed by Prof.(Dr.)Niyati Das,Princial, KINS, KIIT DU and Prof.Mr.Ashokan R ,HOD, Dept of Medical Surgical nursing ,R&D cell Unfolded the theme . Dr. Biswajit Bhuyan shared regarding overview of Thalassemia and explained different types of Thalassemia , clinical features and diagnostic evaluation of Thalassemia. Dr. Palash Dash recited regarding theme of world Thalassemia day and it’s treatment for all. Thalassemia is a inherited hemoglobinopathies. India reported the highest carrier frequency of beta Thalassemia. She have pointed out the Management of Thalassemia like blood transfusion, chelaton, medication. Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT), Methods of leukodepletion. Iron overload, and also she Advised to know own status of Thalassemia and to donate blood.

During the interaction session all the students of B.sc Nursing 4 th semester, GNM 2 nd year, M.sc. nursing 1st year M.sc nursing 2nd year students and all the faculties of KINS were present. After the interaction session there was a discussion on prevention of Thalassemia day and this programme was very fruit full which enhanced the knowledge of students. Role play was conducted at Pediatric surgery ward, PBMH, KIMS at 9:30am parents and their kids under treatment with the diseases were present.
