On September 30 th , 2024 The Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, KINS, KIIT (DU) observed the International Day of Older persons. This significant event aimed to raise the awareness about the issue faced by the older persons across the globe, with a focus on this year theme: “Ageing with dignity” The importance of strengthening care and support system for older persons Worldwide.
The event began with a ceremonial lamb lighting by HOD of Medical Surgical Nursing, KINS, KIIT (DU), Bhubaneswar and Dr.(Prof.) Tanmoy Mohanty, Department of Orthopedics, PBMH (KIMS), KIIT DU and several faculty members from KINS also attended the event. Prof. Asokan R, HOD of Medical Surgical Nursing & Incharge of R&D, KINS, KIIT (DU) unfolded the theme followed by welcomed Dr.(Prof)Tanmoy Mohanty, Dept. of Orthopaedics, PBMH (KIMS), KIIT (DU), who delivered an insightful address on the “Challenges of Geriatric Care in the current scenario”. He emphasized the importance of understanding the age related highlighted the need for social support to improve the quality of life for older persons.
Following this, a Panel discussion titled “Generation Together”. was conducted by the M.Sc. Nursing 2nd year Nursing students. They shared the perspectives on intergenerational collaboration to improve the older person care. The GNM 2 nd year and M.Sc. Nursing 2nd year students performed a beautiful street Role play, creatively showcasing the contributions, wisdom, dignity, and rights of senior citizens and stressing the importance of ensuring their wellbeing.
The Programme was anchored by Mrs.Pritilagna Dash, Tutor, KINS, KIIT (DU) and vote of thanks was extended by Mrs.Minati Das Asso. Prof., KINS, KIIT (DU).
The event was enthusiastic participation from students of M.Sc. Nursing 2nd year, GNM 2nd year and B.Sc. Nursing 3rd semester students who were highly motivated by the theme of “Ageing with Dignity”. The event concluded successfully with the KIIT anthem, leaving the lasting impact on the audience regarding the viral role of the younger generation in caring for and respecting older persons.
