A guest lecture on “OSCE in Mental Health Nursing” was successfully organized by the Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), KIIT Deemed to be University, on 3rd February 2026 at LT-3, KINS, Campus-5, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. V. Sivasankari, Associate Professor, KINS, who highlighted the importance of competency-based assessment methods in nursing education, particularly in mental health nursing. The session was conducted by Mr. Nanda Kumar Paniyadi, Assistant Professor, College of Nursing, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, and Mr. Alwin Issac, Tutor, College of Nursing, AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The resource persons provided comprehensive insights into the concept, structure, and implementation of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) in Mental Health Nursing, with emphasis on station design, standardized evaluation, and assessment of clinical and communication competencies. The programme was attended by M.Sc. Psychiatry Nursing speciality students, 5th semester B.Sc. Nursing students, and GNM 2nd year students. The session was highly interactive and practice-oriented, enabling effective knowledge translation into clinical teaching and evaluation practices. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Debajani Sahoo, Assistant Professor, KINS, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons, institutional authorities, and participants for their active involvement.
Learning Outcomes: At the end of the guest lecture, the participants were able to:
1. Explain the concept and principles of OSCE in Mental Health Nursing.
2. Describe the structure and components of OSCE stations.
3. Apply OSCE methodology for assessing clinical, communication, and decision-making skills.
4. Differentiate OSCE from traditional clinical assessment methods.
5. Appreciate the role of OSCE in enhancing competency-based nursing education.
