The International Nurses Day celebration, held on May 12, 2025, at the KIIT Auditorium, was a vibrant tribute to the dedication, resilience, and expertise of the nursing community. Commemorating the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing, the event served as a powerful platform to honor those who stand at the frontlines of patient care. The theme for this year “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.” resonated deeply throughout the proceedings, framing nursing not just as a supportive role, but as a critical driver of global health and economic stability.This day serves not only as a tribute to the legacy of Florence Nightingale but also as an opportunity to celebrate the compassion, dedication, and resilience of nurses who form the backbone of the healthcare sector.

The celebration united students, faculty, and staff to honor this profession through cultural performances and competitions from May 8th to 11th. Students participated in KINS Got Talent, skit competition and reel making competition. For teachers, events included quiz competitions, Bite Battle, one-minute challenge, Jhoti competition, reel making competition, antakshari, tug of war and Beat the Seat, fostering creativity and engagement.

The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by distinguished dignitaries, including Prof.(Dr.) Saranjit Singh, Vice- Chancellor,  KIIT-DU, Prof. (Dr.)JnyanaRanjanMohanty, Registrar, KIIT-DU,  AVM Prof. R.C. Das, Dean & Principal, KIMS, Dr.(Prof) ManasRanjanBehera, Medical Superintendent of KIMS, PBMH, Dr. (Prof.) Niyati Das, Principal (College of Nursing, KINS) and Mrs. GitanjaliMohanta, Nursing Superintendent,  KIMS, PBMH.

The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. (Prof.) Niyati Das, Principal, College of Nursing, KINS, followed by addresses from esteemed dignitaries. They highlighted the vital role of nurses in ensuring quality healthcare and strengthening health systems, lauding their dedication and urging students to embody empathy, professionalism, and a spirit of service. Specifically Prof. (Dr.) Saranjit Singh, Vice- Chancellor,  KIIT-DU highlighted the global shortage of nurses and emphasized the growing need for highly skilled nursing professionals worldwide. He stressed the importance of skill development, communication, technological competence, and global healthcare training for budding nurses. He also stated that Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), under KIIT, is providing such advanced training opportunities in line with the mission and vision of Founder sir Dr.AchyutaSamanta to prepare students for global healthcare careers.

A highlight of the event was the unveiling of e-KARA, the official KINS magazine, celebrating academic excellence, creative talent, and key departmental milestones of students and faculty.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mrs. GitanjaliMohanta, Nursing Superintendent, KIMS, followed by a prize distribution ceremony honoring winners of various competitions. The Best Student Award and the Best Volunteer Award were presented to one student each from the M.Sc. Nursing, B.Sc. Nursing, and GNM programs in recognition of their excellence. The celebration ended on a high note with a soulful rendition of the KIIT anthem, evoking pride and unity among all present.
