Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) arranged a two days’ skill training program on Pediatric Life Support (PLS) for BSc Nursing 6th semester and MSc Nursing 1st year and 2nd year Child Health Nursing specialty students from 28th April to 29th April, 10 am to 5 pm at KABEEL simulation and skill upgradation center, KIMS. The session was taken by Dr.Ashok kumar Badamali, Cardiac Anaesthetist and Director of KABEEL simulation center, KIMS. On day one, he delivered an in-depth talk on Basic Life Support (PBLS) and Advanced Life Support (PALS)—designed to treat critically ill or injured infants and children, preventing cardiac arrest and promoting spontaneous circulation. He discussed elaborately on pediatric assessment, pediatric vital signs, initial assessment, primary assessment, secondary assessment, respiratory distress and failure, types of respiratory problem and its management, advance airway, intubation, shock, its types and management, cardiac arrest, its recognition and its management.

On day two, students were divided in to small groups to practice hands on skills on mannequins’. Each student independently practiced skills like airway positioning, bag-mask ventilation, chest compressions, IV/IO access techniques under supervision of instructors. A total 100 number of students participated in program under the supervision of faculties of child health nursing department, KINS, KIIT DU. This session was highly informative and indeed useful.
