World AIDS Day is observed every year on 1st December to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, show solidarity with people living with HIV, and remember those who have lost their lives to the disease. The theme for this year was “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response.”
Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) celebrated the day with great enthusiasm and commitment. The Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing (MSN) faculty took the initiative to organize a series of impactful activities, including a community awareness program on AIDS prevention, a theme-based quiz competition, a mono act performance, and a guest special talk for students of KINS.
A community health awareness Nukkad Natak was staged on the morning of 1st December from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the community hall in Niladri Vihar Basti. The performance was planned by Mrs. Pritilagna Das &Mrs. Shradhanjali Nayak, Tutor, KINS,presented by B.Sc. Nursing 3rd Semester students and witnessed by around 100–150 local residents. The theme-based roleplay was followed by the distribution of awareness leaflets and refreshments, leaving a strong impression on the community.
Post-lunch, the formal inauguration and lamp-lighting ceremony was held at the KIMS Auditorium. The event was graced byProf. (Dr.) Niyati Das, Principal, KINS, Prof. Kalyani Rath, Vice Principal KINS, Prof. Asokan R., HOD, MSN Department KINS. Prof. (Dr.) Niyati Das delivered the inaugural address, followed by Prof. Asokan R., who unfolded the theme of the year.A thought-provoking special guest talk on various aspects of AIDS was delivered by Dr. Gurukrushna Mohapatra, Professor of Community Medicine, IMS & SUM Hospital-II, Phulanakhara, which enriched the students’ understanding of various aspects ofAIDS.Mono Acting competition was planned by Mrs. Devasmita Sahoo, Assistant Professor, MSN Dept.The competition showcased the acting talents of 3rd Semester students. The event was judged by Dr. Sujata Acharya, Associate Professor, Education, Dean, School of Tribal Heritage and Tribal Indology, KISS University, Bhubaneswar. The top three performers were awarded by the judges. Followed by which a Quiz Competition was planned byMrs. Minati Das &Ms. Sarita Marandi and verified by the HOD, MSN Department.The quiz attracted 67 enthusiastic participants from both UG & PG students of KINS. After a preliminary round, 30 students were selected and divided into six groups of five students each. The competition was lively and intellectually stimulating, with prizes awarded to the top three teams.
The day-long celebration witnessed the active involvement of about 250 students and 30 faculty members of KINS. The program concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by refreshments for all participants.
