A National Level E - Seminar on New Born Management Series was organized on 18th & 19th Aug, 2020 by DRIEMS,Tangi. The Welcome Address was given by Prof.Anasuya Pattnaik (Principal, DSCN),the Inaugural speech was given by Mrs.Priyadarshini Rath (Director, DRIEMS). 

On this occasion Prof.(Mrs)Amarita Lenka (Principal, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences) was invited as the Chief Guest to deliver the KeyNote Address. Despite the remarkable global progress made in maternal and newborn survival over the last decade, 4.6 million babies still die in their first year of life,nearly three million die in the first 28 days. Under 5yrs of age,every year India loses more children than any other country in the world. Nationwide, more than half of these deaths occur in the neonatal period, mostly because babies are born prematurely, suffer from birth asphyxia or have neonatal infections. Around 0.75 million neonates die every year in India, the highest death rate for any country in the world. According to the India Newborn Action Plan- 2014, Govt. of India is committed to reduce the Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR) from 28 to 9 by 2030. The Primary objective behind this Seminar was to bring down the Infant Mortality Rate and strengthen the child survival rate.

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from 1st Aug to 7th August to support exclusive breastfeeding in order to have healthy babies around the world. It commemorates the Innocenti Declaration signed in August 1990 by our policy makers,World Health Organization,UNICEF and other organizations to Protect, Promote and Support breastfeeding.

On this occasion, Department of OBG and Child Health Nursing of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences organized a webinar on the theme “Support Breastfeeding for a Healthier Planet” in the virtual platform on 3rd August 2020 from 10 AM to 2 PM. The Objective of this Webinar was to showcase contribution of Nurses in the promotion of breast feeding and its impact to bring down Infant Mortality rate around the World. Around 250 participants from various institutions of India took part in this webinar.

RIMS from Ranchi, CON(Narayana Hrudalaya,Bangalore),DRIEMS from Cuttack,Hi-Tech CON from Bhubaneswar, Govt. College Of Nursing, Berhampur , St.Ursula ANM Nursing school from Konbir Noatoli, ANM School,Gridih,Jharkhand, SITE,Bolangir, SUM Nursing College,BBSR. Participants included faculties as well as students from KINS.

M.sc.(1styr,2ndyr) , BSc.(3rdyr), GNM ( 2nd year and 3rd year) students were the prime beneficiaries of this event. The webinar commenced with the welcome address by Prof.(Mrs)Amarita Lenka,Principal,Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences at 10AM. She highlighted on the importance of celebrating Breast feeding week around the world.

The first Session of the Webinar was taken by Prof.(Dr)Abhilekha Biswal, Principal, PG college of Nursing, Bhillai, Chattisgarh on the topic “Support Breastfeeding for Healthier Planet”. She enlightened participants on support, benefits, challenges and preparedness on breast feeding practices. Mrs.Geetarani Nayak, Asst. Professor, AIIMS, CON Bhubaneswar emphasized on “Optimizing Nutrition in Preterm Low Birth Infants”, her Session was highly informative.

The Third Session was taken by Dr.Bhuneswari Dash, Asst. Professor, Lt Smt.Sudhadevi Memorial Govt Nursing College, Kabirdham, Chhattisgarh on “Supporting Breastfeeding during COVID-19 Pandemic”, she cautioned participants against inappropriate use of infant formula milk and evading breastfeeding. Prof.(Mrs)Niyati Das,Vice-Principal,KINS, delivered a session on  “Infant Young Child Feeding”, she emphasized on the importance of  IYCF and the role of Health Care Provider, this was followed by a Session on “Breast Feeding Counseling” by Mrs. Kalyani Rath, Associate Professor, KINS. She enlightened Participants on the role of Nurses to encourage and support exclusive breastfeeding. The last session was conducted by Mrs. Purnima Sahoo, Assistant professor, KINS. She explained in detail about Lactation Management.

Mrs S.Bhaktiswarupa,Tutor,KINS and the  team coordinated the webinar smoothly with ease. The webinar concluded with vote of thanks by Mrs. Aparna Moharana,Tutor, KINS. The E- Certificates will be mailed to the Speakers and Participants within a week.

Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences successfully organized a Seminar on 30th July 2020 via Google Meet. The Theme of this seminar was “COVID 19: Psychological Issues and Coping Strategies”

The Topics for the Sessions were meticulously decided by Prof.(Mrs)Amarita Lenka and members of Psychiatric Department,KINS.

Participants included the Principal,Vice-Principal and the faculties along with the B.Sc. (3rd Year) & GNM (2nd Year) students of KINS.

The Seminar commenced at 11am with unveiling of the theme by Mrs.Sanjukta Dixit followed by a session on COVID 19’Pandemic by Mrs.Reena Singh.

She gave an overview of COVID 19 Pandemic highlighting  Signs/Symptoms, mode of transmission and recent trends.

Second session on psychosocial issues evolving due to COVID 19 Pandemic was taken by Mrs. Soudamini Biswal. She explained about various issues like depression, anxiety, domestic violence creeping on due to this crisis.

The last Session was taken by Ms.Truptimayee Das on Coping strategies to combat the pandemic, she emphasized on different  strategies to cope with stress in a healthy way to build a strong community. This also helps individuals to adapt to new and challenging situations.

On behalf of the KINS family, Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs. Sradhanjali Biswal and the seminar came to an end at 1.10pm.

Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences successfully organized the first online Webinar series to commemorate the 200th Birth Anniversary of Florence Nightingale from 11th – 13th May 2020. The Participants were Nursing professionals of KINS as well as Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital, KIMS.

The Theme for this Webinar was “Role of Nurses in management of Covid-19”.

The Topics for the Sessions were meticulously decided by Principal & Vice-Principal KINS.

There were approximately 250 virtual Participants including students of B.Sc. 3rd Year, B.Sc. 4th Year, GNM 2nd Year & GNM 3rd Year and staff of PBMH. The Webinar was inaugurated by  Prof. (Mrs) Amarita Lenka (Principal CON,KINS) on 11th May at 11:30 Am. The Introductory session on Covid-19 Pandemic was taken by Prof. (Mrs) Amarita Lenka,which was followed by a Session on Getting workplace ready for Covid-19 Clients by Assoc.Prof. Asokan. R.

The last Session was taken by Mr. Chandan Pradhan on Various roles of Nurses during Covid-19 Pandemic.

Mrs.Rashmi Ranjita Pahi also supported us to conduct the Sessions.

On 12th May the Sessions were preceded by lighting of the lamp on the eve of International Nurses Day & paying homage to the Founder of Modern Nursing: Florence Nightingale.

This year’s Theme for International Nurses Day was “Nurses : A Voice to Lead-Nursing the World to Health”.

The first Session was taken by Prof. Niyati Das, Vice Principal KINS on the topic, Management of infants born to mothers with Covid-19 clients followed by Mrs. Kalyani Rath, Assoc. Prof. KINS on Maternal health care management during the outbreak of Covid-19 Pandemic.

On 13th May there were two virtual sessions.

First one was taken by Asst.(Prof) Mrs.Purnima Sahoo on Breast feeding during this crisis followed by Asst.(Prof)Mrs.Soumya Sonalika on Social Stigma with Covid-19 Pandemic. Mrs. Niharibala Nayak  (Tutor, KINS) took a session on Sexual & reproductive health and Women's rights during this Pandemic. The last session was taken by Asst.(Prof)Mrs.Trupti Rekha Swain on Supplementary & complementary therapies in prevention of Covid-19. 

On behalf of the KINS family, Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs. Niharibala Nayak and the Webinar came to an end.

Like every year, to bring together the important theme of ‘Food’, a fun filled food fair was organized by the students of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT, Deemed to be University on 07/03/2020. The event was inaugurated by Prof.Mrs. Amarita Lenka, Principal, college of Nursing, KINS, Prof. Pramoda Nayak, Principal, School of nursing, KINS , Prof. Niyati Das, Vice principal ,KINS and Mr. Dilip Jena, DDO, KIMS. All faculty of KINS were also present to witness the event . At the outset students from every batches put their heart and soul in preparing delicious and variety of cuisines starting from shakes to tea; from paani puri to kheer, from chicken pakora to crispy corn and many more. A total of 12 different stalls were arranged. The delicacy grabbed everyone’s attention as all faculty and students from various departments of the campus started showing up despite the bad weather which indeed was a source of encouragement for the organizing students. Overall it was a sumptuous fun filled experience.

The fest was a miniature tableau for representing unity as ‘good food never fails to bring people together’!

In the World of Allopathy dominated  treatment modality, people primarily use allopathy widely for all kinds of management. During ancient days Naturopathy was the treatment of choice. India is now again promoting Naturopathy as treatment modality through AYUSH.

Keeping these changes in view, National Institute of Naturopathy (Ministry of AYUSH, GOI) in association with KIIT School of Yoga & Spiritualism organized a one day Mega Naturopathy Camp in KIMS Auditorium on 6th March 2020.
Program started with inauguration by guests Dr. Satya Ray (Sr. Journalist), Prof. (Dr) K. Satya Lakshmi (Ministry of AYUSH), Prof. Prafulla Kumar Mishra (Chancellor, Agricultural University, Bihar) and our very own Pro V.C, KIIT-DU  Prof. Sasmitarani Samanta. 

The Pre-lunch session was chaired by Prof. (Mrs) Amarita Lenka, Principal CON KINS. Dr. Millind Parasar from Jagadguru Kripalu Yoga & Naturopathy Hospital addressed the 1st session on “Why Naturopathy must be inculcated in life” which was followed by Life Style Management on Gandhian Principles by Dr. Bansidhar Mulia of KIMS. The speakers and the Chairperson were all felicitated by the organizers and lunch was served. The post graduate student attended the Mega Naturopathy Camp. The Post-lunch session was on Drugless treatment of Hypertension and Diabetes. After the sessions there was spectacular Yoga demonstrations by School of Yoga and students of KISS University. 

A group of undergraduate students of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University Mr. Suraj Manna (B.Sc. Nursing 3rd year), Miss Sudeshna Manna (BSc Nursing 4th year), Miss Sudipta Pati (B.Sc. Nursing 4th year) guided by Mr. Chandan Pradhan, faculty KINS prepared a descriptive case study on Recurrent episodes of Jaundice after Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in a client with Gilbert’s Syndrome. The study was selected for poster presentation by National Nursing Science Exhibition (INNOVUS 2020) organized by Sri Ramchandra Institute of Higher Education and Research in Chennai.

On 29th of February, 2020, Mr. Suraj Manna on behalf of the group presented the study in poster format. The Guest Of Honour Prof. Mark Heyter (Faculty of Health Science University of Hall, UK); Dr. K. V. Somasundaram (Prof. of Eminence and Academics), and Organizing Chairperson Prof. S. J. Nalini (Principal, College of Nursing, SRIHER Deemed to be University) appreciated the work done by the students to enhance the field of nursing knowledge.

Students also received certificates of recognition for their poster presentation. Students had a great experience & exposure after attending such type of science exhibition. In all, there were 40 groups who participated for poster presentation and 11 groups for model from different parts of India.

The program was inaugurated by Prof.(Mrs) Amarita Lenka, Principal, KINS and Prof.(Mrs.) Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS, KIIT  Deemed to be University. Encouraging the students  Prof. A. Lenka said, "this is yet another learning activity, wherein the students have put in their spirit and hidden talents in bringing out a well-organized exhibition on Instructional media".

The exhibition was arranged under the categories teaching aids such as three dimensional aids, activity aids, graphic aids, printed aids and projected aids. Dr. Banabihari Mishra, Sr. Consultant Cardiothoracic & Vascular surgery, PBMH, KIMS visited the exhibition, evaluated and put his valuable input to all the students.

It has been proven that recognition of one’s effort is more highly valued than money. When it comes to academics, it’s customary to recognize the highest achievements. So, the students were awarded with first, second and third prizes. The 1st prize was given to group-IV, the 2nd prize was given to group-II, and the 3rd prize was given to group-III.

8th Annual conference of INDIAN ASSOCIATION OF NEONATAL NURSES(IANN) was organised by the INDIAN ASSOCIATION OF NEONATAL NURSES in collaboration with college of Nursing, All India Institute of Medical sciences, Bhubaneswar from 9TH FEB 2020 – 11TH FEB 2020 at AIIMS.
Pre-conference workshop was organized on 9th FEB on various skill  stations NRP: Optimizing the Golden hour, Quality initiatives in neonatology,Practical approach to QI project in NICU, Invasive and Non invasive Respiratory support, Care of Babies Born too soon and too small, Neuro-Developmental supportive care :Healing Environment -Physical and sensory. Plenary sessions on various New-born issues were discussed by the experts from all over India, which was very informative and educative.

Five faculties along with 21 (1st year M.sc Nursing and 2nd year M.sc Nursing) students from KINS, KIIT Deemed to be University had attended the Conference. FIVE faculties from KINS presented their scientific paper in this conference.

Mrs. Bhaktiswarupa M.SC Tutor KINS, presented Oral scientific paper presentation on Effect of selected position on Physiological parameters of Neonates admitted with Respiratory problem in NICU and awarded  2nd prize in scientific paper presentation .

Ms. Sailabala sahoo Tutor KINS presented poster on effectiveness of STP On Knowledge regarding complementary feeding practice among mothers of children in Paediatric ward PBMH KIMS.

The conference offers a excellent Platform for  enhancing skills of  students and faculties through hands on training and also exhibiting the talent through scientific paper presentation.

Corona Virus has been evolving as a global threat to humanity killing more than 900 worldwide & affecting 50000 people. The spread has been catastrophic and unprecedented. Lack of any pertinent treatment and increasing myths around it has led to fourfold rise in the number of cases. Therefore it’s imperative for every health care worker most importantly nursing community globally to spread awareness among local masses.
In line with the guidelines from Government of Odisha Health & Family Welfare Dept. as well as our social obligation; we the Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) organized a Sensitization Program on Novel Corona Virus Spread in Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) on 08/02/2020 at 4:00 PM. This program was initiated by respected Principal CON, KINS Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka to create awareness among students & staff of KISS. It was supported by Dr. Ramesh Pattnaik, Incharge KISS Hospital & KISS Manager Mr. Manas Ranjan Parhi for arrangement of the venue & logistics. Nearly 3500 students and 50 employees of KISS participated in this educational activity. Initially a 20 minutes lecture session with audio-visual aids was conducted by Mr. Chandan Pradhan, (faculty KINS). This was followed by 30 minutes of Street Play & Health Education by 4th Year B.Sc. (N) students of KINS guided by Mrs. Soumya Sonalika, Asst. Prof. KINS. Students of KISS practiced & performed steps for safe hand washing techniques as a preventive measure for virus spread and the program came to an end at 5:00 PM. The event was highly appreciated by KISS Headmaster & KISS Hospital Incharge.

Innovation is to put new ideas into practice or renovating existing ideas into practice. Every nurse is an agent for change and an innovator. In this way one of our GNM 2nd year student Miss. Sumitra Rout, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University innovated a special “TOILET BED” for those chronic bed ridden patient with very limited mobility. It allows for raising and lowering of the bed, in addition to adjustment of bed itself. She has prepared the model in her house & this innovation has been captured and telecasted by different media channels such as Kalinga TV, Metro TV, Kanak TV. For this innovation, Prof. (Mrs) Amarita Lenka, Principal, College of Nursing, Vice-Principal Prof. Niyati Das, Prof. Pramoda K Nayak, Principal, School of Nursing and Faculties of college of Nursing felicitated to Ms.Sumitra Rout with Bouquet and Momento in the college premises. This Innovation will motivate and empower other nursing students for new innovation in future. 

Simulation has become one of the important technology based education in nursing which provides the students opportunities to practice their clinical skill and decision making skills through various real life situational experiences.

A training of master trainer (TOT) for simulation based education was organized at the National Reference Simulation Centre, SGT University , Gurugram, Haryana from 27.01.2020 to 01.02.2020 in collaboration with INC, Jhpeigo and Laerdal helping saves life.
Mrs. Niharibala Nayak, Tutor, KINS had participated and undergone the above training programme where the following topics were discussed:

• Use of checklist and practice in OSCE
• Decision making with case studies
• Simulation designing
• Art of debriefing, labeling of emotions
• Framing of advocacy inquiry questions
• Q  CPR

Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) has organised a “School health Awareness programme” on 7th February, 2020 in Government Secondary School, Niladrivihar.The students of B.Sc Nursing 4th year and M. Sc Nursing 1st year (Community Health Nursing speciality) imparted health education regarding ‘Prevention of Corona Virus’ in the school premises. Role play was performed on sign &symptoms, and also focused on preventive measures of ‘Corona Virus’. A first aid box containing roller bandage, two gauze piece packet, betadine oinment, cotton packet, dettol solution and hand wash solution was provided. ‘School health survey’ was conducted, where the health problems of the school students were identified.Cookies were distributed among them.
This programme was organised under the supervision of Mrs .Soumya Sonalika (Asst. professor, KINS), & Mrs. Trupti Rekha Swain (Tutor, KINS), the Head mistress, other teachers and all the students were present in the school.
The School Health Programme was successful. Programme was concluded with thanks to all.

Nursing Management theories addresses how managers and supervisors relate to their organizations and apply the knowledge to achieve its goals. During the processes of implementation effective means to get the goals accomplished and to motivate employees to perform to the highest standard.

One day seminar on the topic: “Theories of Nursing Management”was organized by Faculties of KINS on 29th January 2020 at LT-3 KIMS.
The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal, CON, KINS, KIIT Deemed to be University, senior faculty members of KINS, Mrs Kabita Baral, ANS and supervisor of PBMH,KIMS were also present in the inauguration session.

Mrs. Rashmi Ranjita Parhi, Tutor delivered the welcome address to the audience and presented a brief overview on “Theories of Nursing Management”.
Mrs.Sailabala Sahoo, Tutor delivered her talk regarding scientific theory and classical theory.Shehighlighted that scientific theory Believed in selecting, training, teaching and developing workers along with used time study, standards planning, exception rule of management, reduced number of movement in bricklaying, resulting in increased output of 200% and concerned with improving the performance of individual efficiency.
Ms. Purnima Sahoo, Asst.Prof. Discussed on Motivational and Modern theory.

She emphasized on how the motivational theory is making an effort to keep nurses motivated and engaged them with positions that fit their talent which will help to encourage employees to be productive and effective and it can improve your overall success as a healthcare provider. Modern theory is concerned with applying quantitative management tools focusing on decision making, economic effectiveness, mathematical models and the use of computer.
Mrs. Soumya Sonalika, Asst.Prof. Discussed on Human relation and Leadership theory. She emphasized on the human relation in nursing achieve a goal, there is a need for human relations. Necessary for providing effective health care to people and effective leadership are very imporatant.values, skills and all these matter in projection a positive image.

The programme was concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms. Tulasi Hansadah, Tutor, and KINS.

The occupational English Test is an internationally recognized English language proficiency test developed specifically for health care professionals. An OET         (Occupational English Test) Orientation Program was organized by Kalinga Institute of Nursing Scinces for all the final year students of Diploma, BSC and MSC Nursing Students on 25/01/2020 at 2:30 pm at KIDS LT-3. Approximately 100 students participated on that. Ms. Neetu Pandey ( OET Expert) from Cambridge University Press  conducted the workshop and she addressed the students and faculty members related to all detailed information about OET. It was more of a interactive session. All the students participated in the discussion. The following points were discussed during the Orientation Program. 

1. What OET is ?
2. Why OET is important for medical professionals?
3. What are the areas where OET is needed?
4. How OET is giving extra milage for career growth in abroad?
5. How India is doing in OET and  Which are the parts of India which is doing good?
6. How to prepare for OET?
7. Where are the preparation centers?

It was a wonderful interactive session where all the attendees were able to understand the benefits the future of OET and why they should choose to take the test.

The Welcome Ceremony “KRITABYA-2020” was organized by Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT DU for the newly joined students of 1st year M Sc (N), B Sc (N) and GNM students at KIMS Auditorium on 22nd January 2020. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by respected dignitaries. The second year students of KINS welcomed the dignitaries & newly admitted students with a beautiful song, followed by address of Prof. (Mrs) Amarita Lenka, Principal,(CON), KINS. She oriented the students regarding nursing profession and its career prospectus in nursing. Maj. Gen. (Dr.) P.K.Pattnaik, Principal and Director, School of Medicine, KIIT Deemed to be University addressed the gathering and welcomed the students. He motivated the students and emphasized on the trends and demands of nursing profession, its expanded roles. Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty,Registrar, KIIT DU, shared his views about nursing skills and importance of nursing profession and congratulated the newly joined students for choosing KIIT DU,The Institute of Eminence as their alma ata. On the Occasion Mr. Fresher award was given to Mr. Biswajit Shil, M. sc. (N) 1st year, Mr. Ashirbad Choudhury, B. Sc.(N) 1st yr, Mr. Sidheswar, GNM 1st yr, and Miss fresher  award was given to Miss Sunita Panda B. sc.(N) 1st yr and Miss. Alka Samaria, GNM 1ST yr. Ms Shraddha Sinha of Bsc(N) 3rd year  and Ms Priti Tripathy of Bsc((N) 2nd year students of KINS,KIIT(DU) were awarded with a scholarship of Rs 10,000 each for  scoring highest marks in University examination in B sc (N)1st year & 2nd year respectively on 6th January 2020.

Osteoporosis, which literally means porous bone, is a disease in which the density and quality of bone are reduced. As bones become more porous and fragile, the risk of fracture is greatly increased. The loss of bone occurs silently and progressively. Often there are no symptoms until the first fracture occurs.
Worldwide, it is estimated that 1 in 3 women above the age of 50 will experience osteoporotic fractures, as well as 1 in 5 men. India with a population of 1.2 billion people out of which approximately 10% of population are over 50 years of age. It is estimated that in 2013, 50 million people in India are either osteoporotic or have low bone mass. A study in Delhi estimated the prevalence of osteoporosis as 24.6% in men and 42.5% in women above 50 years of age.
Why women are more risk for osteoporosis than men
Osteoporosis is three times more common in women than in men, partly because of women have a lower peak bone mass and partly because of the hormonal changes that occur at the menopause. In addition women live longer than men and therefore have greater reduction in bone mass.
Risk factors for osteoporosis in women

• Family history of osteoporosis:
• Previous fracture:  previous fracture increases the risk of any fracture by 86%, compared with people without a prior fracture.
• Ethnicity: Osteoporosis is more common in White and Asian populations.
• Menopause/hysterectomy: Hysterectomy, if accompanied by removal of the ovaries, Post-menopausal women, may also increase the risk for osteoporosis because of estrogen loss.
• Long term glucocorticoid therapy: Long-term use of corticosteroids (ex. Cortisone, Prednisone)
• Rheumatoid arthritis: Rheumatoid arthritis and diseases of the endocrine system like Hyperparathyroidism, thyrotoxicosis can take a heavy toll on bones.

Consequences : Osteoporosis fracture. The common fracture is hip fracture which occur more often among women than men.
Treating Osteoporosis in Young Women

• Control pain from the disease
• Slow down or stop bone loss
• Prevent bone fractures with medicine that strengthen bone
• Minimize the risk of falls

Ways to improve bone health and prevent osteoporosis

• Get enough calcium and vitamin diet
• Try low-fat yogurt and sardines (with bones) to add more calcium to your diet
• Include green vegetables like broccoli,and turnip greens which add calcium
• Include vitamin D rich foods like cereals, fish oil, cord liver and milk alternatives like soymilk in your diet.
• Also take foods which are reach in vitamin K, Vitamin C, Magnesium and Potassium such as fortified juices,green peppers, oranges, grapefruits, broccoli, sprouts, papaya and pineapples, potatoes, green peeper etc which are helpful for bone health.
•  Take calcium and vitamin D supplement if you need one.
• Women under age 50 need a total of 1,000 milligrams (mg) of calcium every day.
•  Women age 50 and older (or any women who is not menstruating) need a total of 1,200 mg of calcium every day
• Adults under age 50 need a total of 400-800 international units (IUs) of vitamin D every day.
• Age 50 and older need a total of 800-1,000 IUs of vitamin D every day.
• Do weight-bearing and muscle strengthening exercises
• Get at least 30 minutes a day of weight-bearing physical activity.
• Include muscle strengthening exercises like cycling and swimming dancing, skipping, running or walking.
• Join a gym or sign up for a group exercise class
• Try a new sport or activity such as tennis or hiking
• Keep healthy life style
• Eat five or more fruits and vegetables every day.
• Quit smoking and limit alcohol consumption.
• Try not to eat too many salty or processed foods.
• Learn about your personal risk factors for osteoporosis.
• Avoid stress.
• Talk to your doctor about your health
• Make an appointment with doctor or other health care provider to talk about your health problem

Students of KINS along with faculty members attended the 1st dissemination event of the project titled “Risk Management and prevention of Antibiotics Resistance” – PREVENT IT on 02.01.2020. This is a 3 year project co- funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European commission under the Erasmus+ capacity Building for higher education. The Event was organized by KIIT School of Public Health. The theme of the Event was “Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) menace: Role of Academics. The vision of the project is a future where every individual is aware of antibiotic resistance (ABR) & empowered with the right education to address the issue of ABR. Therefore PREVENT IT aims to promote qualitative teaching activities in academia as well as in the society.

The inaugural function was graced by Prof. Hrushikesha  Mohanty, Vice-Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University (DU), Maj. Gen. Prof. (Dr.) P. K. Patnaik, Principal KIMS and Director KIIT School of Medicine, Dr Sushil Kumar Kar, Director, Nursing, Odisha, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Odisha and Shri Himanshu Sekhar Pradhan, Associate Professor &In-charge, Academic Affairs, School of Public health.

1st international conference was organized by Bhartiya Vidyapeeth, College of Nursing Navi Mumbai in collaboration with Society for Research Development in Health Sciences (SRDHS) on 8th& 9th November 2019.
The theme of the conference was- Research Ideas in Nursing: Enough Light to illuminate the dark tunnel. The purpose of the conference was to update, abreast, stimulate & gather research scholar in an international forum.
Mrs. Soumya Sonalika (Assistant Professor of  KINS & presented the scientific paper on “Assess the perceptions about mental illness and help-seeking behaviors among care givers in SCBMC Hospital, Cuttack and non-care givers in rural community, Bhubaneswar.”

Adolescence is transition period for physical growth & sexual maturation. Nutrition being determinant of physical growth of adolescents is an important area that needs attention. Growth is one of the most important health concerns for adolescents & their parents as well as health care workers. The eating disorders, anorexia nervosa , bulimia nervosa  and binge eating disorder, manifest through distorted or chaotic eating and in the case of Anorexia nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa are characterized by a morbid preoccupation with weight and shape. Eating disorders and partial syndromes, including avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder, remain relatively common and early recognition and intervention is helpful. Aetiology is multifactorial, with high heritability. Prognosis overall is good but treatment can be long and intensive, significantly impacting families. An integrated multidisciplinary approach is essential, working collaboratively with families and young people. Psychological interventions focus on the eating disorder, supported by medical monitoring and dietetic guidance. Although working with families is the backbone of treatment for Anorexia Nervosa, young people also need opportunities for confidential discussion. For Bulimia nervosa, family or individual approaches may be equally effective. Evidence for effectiveness of psychopharmacological agents is limited in both Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. Psychological and pharmacological approaches may both be of benefit for Behavioral Eating Disorder.
Treatment most often involves a combination of the following strategies:
Psychotherapy          
This is a type of individual counseling that focuses on changing the thinking (cognitive therapy) and behavior (behavioral therapy) of a person with an eating disorder. Treatment includes practical techniques for developing healthy attitudes toward food and weight, as well as approaches for changing the way the person responds to difficult situations. There are several types of psychotherapy including:

• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. This therapy’s goal is to develop motivation to change actions rather than your thoughts and feelings.
• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This therapy’s goal is to address distorted views and attitudes about weight, shape and appearance and practice behavioral modification (if “X” happens, I can do “Y” instead of “Z”).

• Cognitive Remediation Therapy. This therapy uses reflection, and guided supervision to develop the capability of focusing on more than one thing at a time.
• Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), is CBT plus insight. In other words, this therapy helps the individual not just develop new skills to handle negative triggers, but also helps the person develop insight to recognize triggers or situations where a non-useful behavior might occur. Specific skills include building mindfulness, improving relationships through interpersonal effectiveness, managing emotions and tolerating stress.
• Family-based Treatment (also called the Maudsley Method). This therapy involves family-based refeeding, which means putting the parents/family in charge of getting the appropriate nutritional intake consumed by the individual with the eating disorder. It is the most evidence-based method to physiologically restore health to an individual with anorexia nervosa who is under 18 years of age.
• Interpersonal Psychotherapy. This therapy is aimed at resolving an interpersonal problem area. Improving relationships and communications, and resolving identified problems has been found to reduce eating disorder symptoms.
• Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. This therapy involves looking at the root causes of anorexia nervosa – what are the patient’s true underlying needs and issues -- as the key to recovery.

Medication

The antipsychotic olanzapine (Zyprexa) may be helpful for weight gain. Although there is no clear evidence that antidepressant medications can help individuals gain weight, some doctors may prescribe these drugs to help control anxiety and depression associated with an eating disorder.

Nutrition counseling

This strategy is designed to teach a healthy approach to food and weight, to help restore normal eating patterns, and to teach the importance of nutrition and a balanced diet.

Group and/or family therapy

Family support is very important for success of the treatment. It is important that family members understand the eating disorder and recognize its signs and symptoms. People with eating disorders might benefit from group therapy, where they can find support, and openly discuss their feelings and concerns with others who share common experiences and problems.

Hospitalization

Treatment can take place outside the hospital or in inpatient facility. To be considered for outpatient therapy, patients need to be medically and psychiatrically stable, have symptoms under control and not require daily medical monitoring. Hospitalization might be needed to treat severe weight loss that has resulted in malnutrition and other serious mental or physical health complications, such as heart disorders, serious depression and suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

 Among the risk factors for eating disorders, social and family environment and the media were the most important ones. The influence of the media and social environment has been related to the worship of thinness. Life style family environment mealtimes appeared to be fundamental in shaping eating behavior and the development of disorders. Eating disorders were associated with nutritional problems (growing impairment and weight gain), oral health (cheilitis, dental erosion, periodontitis, and hypertrophy of salivary glands), and social prejudice. Health care personnel is of particular value in the assessment and management of acute malnutrition and complications secondary to disordered eating behaviors, in the early stages of re-feeding, and in the monitoring and management of long-term complications such as growth retardation, pubertal delay and osteopenia. Nutrition is fundamental for children’s current & future health as well as their development & learning. Nutrition education is an important element in an overall strategy aimed at improving food security & preventing all form of malnutrition. Diet counseling makes the individual aware of the fact that diet plays important role in the treatment of the behavioral eating disorder. With today’s emphasis on prevention of disease, diet counseling helps to reduce the risk of some illness by appropriate counseling.

National Girl Child day is celebrated every year on January 24 across the country. Its objective is to provide maximum support and facilities to the girls of the country in every respect. Apart from this, another objective of National Girl Child Day is to increase awareness about discrimination against girls.

The Government of India has started National Girl Child Day to bring equality in society as a campaign. This campaign aims to make people aware of girls across the country.District Child Protection Unit, Cuttack observed National Girl Child day on 24th January 2020 at Red Cross Bhawan, Collectorate, Cuttack. Around 100 adolescent orphan boys and girls from cuttack participated in the observation. Mrs  Kalyani Rath, Asso Prof, KINS, KIIT(DU)  was invited as a special guest and resource person for the day. Mrs. Rath delivered talk   on “Adolescent Health & Hygiene”. She explained about the importance of menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls. She also emphasized about the different physical & physiological changes takes place during the puberty in adolescent. An audio on Suna Pari was released on this occasion. The  programme was very interesting and educative for all adolescents to create awareness about the importance of girl child in society.

A National Seminar was organized by Department of Community Health Nursing and Mental Health Nursing, Kalinga Institue of Nursing Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University on theme “New Horizon in Community Mental Health Practice” on 6th December 2019 with much enthusiasm and vibrance. Around 470 delegates were participated from 12 different nursing colleges.
The theme was unfolded by Mrs. Soumya Sonalika , Asst. Prof, Dept. of CHN, KINS. Inaugural cum valedictory session was graced by our Chief guest Dr. Sarada Prasanna Swain, Director, HOD, Psychiatry, MHI, SCB, Cuttack and the Guest of honor Dr. Sushil Kumar Kar, Director of Nursing, Odisha, Prof. Hrushikesh  Mohanty, VC, KIIT Deemed to be University Major Gen P.K.Pattnaik, Principal & Director School of medicine , Mr. Panchanan Parida, Management representative, PBMH, KIMS. All dignitaries lighted the lamp and guests and participants were welcomed by  Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka , Principal, KINS.
Prof. H. Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, addressed the gathering with his valuable words of encouragements for nursing profession. Major gen. Prof. P.K.Patnaik , Principal KIMS and Director school of Medicine congratulated and appreciated KINS fraternity for organizing such informative seminar and Mr. Panchanan Parida, Management Representative focused on contribution of Nurses towards rendering service in community mental health.
Guest of honor Dr. Sushil Kumar Kar, Director Nursing, emphasized on scopes and development in the field of community and mental health, and he also announced that the Govt. of Odisha has planned to create around 6000 Nursing posts to bridge the gap.The chief guest Dr. Sarada Prasanna Swain highlighted the true Scenario of prevalence of mental health illness and services rendered for well being of the society.

World AIDS Day is a global initiative to raise awareness, fight prejudice, and educate about HIV and AIDS. The U.S. federal theme for the 2019 World AIDS Day observance was “Ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic: Community by Community”. Like every year on 1st December 2019  Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences celebrated World AIDS Day  for two days with the  collaboration of School of Medicine, KIIT deemed to be University. On 30th November, the inauguration began with cultural activities - Flash mob was performed by MBBS and the Nukkad was performed by B.Sc. Nursing 3rd year students from 5.00pm- 7.00pm. The theme of the Nukkad was "Spreading the awareness of AIDS and acceptance of victims in society ". On December 1st the department of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences(KINS) took an initiative in IV/IM/SC infusion demonstration from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm by M.Sc. Nursing and B.Sc. Nursing 3rd year students. Then from 2:00 to 4:30pm the quiz competition and poster both with prelims & finals simultaneously held at LT 1 and LT 2. And finally the day ended with closing ceremony.

Now the burning issues of waste management has drawn the attention of administrative functionaries at different levels World over. On line with the same socio-economic issues the 9th International Conference on Sustainable Waste Management towards Circular Economy was organized by International Society of Waste Management in association with Jadavpur University, Kolkata. KIIT Deemed to be University was the co-organizer of this conference which was held in Campus-6 Auditorium from 27th to 29th November 2019.
There were many deliberations on the specific issues of waste management like collection, segregation, processing, composting and transport of the waste generated in various spheres of human life. Waste to Money, that is generation of revenue sources from waste was the epicentre of all discussions for the circular economic growth.

Faculties of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences whole heartedly participated in the conference. Faculties from the College of Nursing presented four Oral prapers by Prof. Mrs. Niyati Das, Mrs. Nibedita Mohanty, Mrs. Kulumina Dash and Mrs Minati Das, Mrs. Soumya Sonalika, Mrs. Trupti Rekha Swain and Mr. Chandan Pradhan, and two Poster presentations by Mr. Asokan.R, Ms. Purnima Sahoo & Mrs. S.Bhaktiswarupa on aspects of Community & Bio-medical waste management in and around Bhubaneswar.

In valedictory session Founder of KIIT & KISS University Dr. Achyuta Samanta was awarded the lifetime achievement award for his contribution towards waste management in KISS University and Pro-VC Prof. Sasmita Samanta received the leadership award for her role in conference organization. The conference was very fruitful to give insight regarding the best waste management practices.

National Constitution Day was celebrated by all 40 (teaching & nonteaching) staffs and 350 students of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences today in KIMS Auditorium from 10.30 a.m onwards. The programme was inducted by Principal (CON) Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka to inculcate the values of Indian Constitution & principles of our land among the students and the staffs on the occasion of National Constitution Day-2019. All students and staffs took Oath of Constitution of India through the preamble read out by Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka. After Oath students & staff viewed the live streaming of Doordarshana programme of the Central Hall in parliament house (New Delhi) in which Lok Sabha speaker, Prime Minister, Vice President  & President shared their views regarding the constitution Day.

 New born is the new beginning to the challenges ahead in life but when there is an emergency immediately after birth the challenges multiply numerous times. So tackle this challenges is the need of the hour for which an extensive three days seminar on “High Risk Newborn Management” was organized by Dept. of Paediatric & final year M.Sc. nursing students of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences from dt. 18th Nov. to 21st Nov 2019 at KIMS Auditorium. The aim of the seminar was to impart knowledge and develop skills on high risk newborn MANAGEMENT for the M. Sc (N) 1st yr, B.Sc (N) 4th yr, B.Sc (N) 3rd yr, GNM 2nd yr and 3rd yr  students. The programme was inaugurated at 2 pm with lighting the lamp by Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal, KINS, KIIT followed by unfolding the theme by Prof. (Mrs.) Niyati Das, Vice- Principal, KINS, KIIT. Dr. Santosh Kumar Panda, Neonatologist, PBMH, KIMS. Dr. Panda highlighted on prioritizing the management of high risk newborn care.

The scientific session was started at 2.30 pm by Ms. Subrata Behera, M. Sc (N) 2nd yr KINS with the topic Identification and classification of high risk newborn: Pre term, low birth weight, IUGR, Post mature. The next topic on Nutritional needs was discussed by Ms. Diptimayee Naik, M. Sc (N) 2nd yr, Prenatal Diagnostic Testing was highlighted by Ms. Aditi Bose M. Sc (N) 2nd  yr, complications of preterm baby: Birth asphyxia, Respiratory distress  elaborated by Mrs. Jasnarani Behera, M. Sc (N) 2nd  yr, Diabetic mother and Hypoglycemia was discussed by Ms. Champabati Hansdah M. Sc (N) 2nd  yr.

In today’s dynamic World of changing policies, Ethics is the need of the hour to sustain and maintain the human dignity and their rights.
To Keep up pace with the ethical rules of regulations a two days International Workshop on Clinical Research Ethics was organized by KIMS in collaboration with National Institute of Health (NIH) of USA . Four faculties namely Prof. (Mrs.) Niyati Das (Vice Principal), Mrs. Kulumina Dash (Programme Co- Ordinator), Mrs. Nibedita Mohanty (Asst. professor) & Mr. Chandan Pradhan from KINS participated in this workshop. Speakers from NIH, ICMR, Niti Aayog, AIIMS Bhubaneswar & Drug controller of India gave their valuable inputs on the theme.
The two days workshop ended with a panel discussion by the esteemed speakers to find solutions to various issues raised by the delegates.

15thAnnual convocation of KIIT university was held on 9th November 2019.Honourable speaker of the Lok Sabha Govt of India Sri Om Birla was invited as the chief guest.After convocation all the  UG and PG graduate  students of KINS were invited to  Kalinga institute of Nursing Sciences for the Alumni meet at 4pm.
Miss Purnima Sahoo. ,co-ordinator of Alumni of KINS distributed alumni card and  online registration was done for alumni,in the presence of all the faculties of KINS .The students were oriented to AAand  regarding benefits of Alumni of KIIT Deemed to be University.
After the orientation, the students shared their experiences regarding KINS and KIIT deemed to be university.  Program ended with distribution of snacks to the Alumnis.

One day seminar on the topic “Pre–Requisite of effective teaching” was organized by faculities of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences on dt. 29 Oct. 2019 at KIMS Auditorium. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal, College of Nursing, KINS, Prof. (Mrs.) Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS KIIT Deemed University and all faculties.

Mrs. Niharibala Nayak, M. Sc (N) Tutor, KINS delivered the welcome address and briefly overview the importance of teaching. Mrs. Sradhanjali Biswal, M. Sc (N) Tutor, KINS discussed on “Principles of practice teaching”. She highlighted on the art of using maxims of teaching skills. Mrs. Swetarani Dalei, M. Sc (N) Tutor, KINS discussed on principles of preparing A.V. aids, different type of A.V. aids and how the students can abide with the principles while preparing and presenting A.V. aids. Mrs. Aparnna Moharana, M. Sc (N) Tutor, KINS, discussed on “Lesson plan”. She focussed on different aspects of lesson plan.

The programme adjourned with the vote of thanks by Mrs. Tulasi Hansdah, tutor, KINS.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was introduced by the Government of India in 2014 with the aim of celebrating Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He was the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India and played an important role in the integration of more than 500 independent princely states during 1947 to 1949 from the British rule through the Independence Act 1947 and made an Indian federation.

The Program commenced with Principal (CON) Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka orienting the students and faculties regarding the importance of the day and disclosing the theme. Then she read the pledge of National Ekta Diwas along with the students for National Unity.  Afterwards, the students and the faculties spoke about the National Unity Day in the open forum. The program ended with the National Anthem.

In fact, the Ministry of Human Resource Development in general and the Registrar of KIIT Deemed to be University in particular advised to celebrate and administer pledge in each school and college, so that students can be motivated and maintain the unity and integrity of the country.

“A good teacher is like a candle, it consumes itself to light the way for others”. Dr. Sarvepali Radhakrishnan, 2nd President of India was born on 5th September 1888 his birthday is celebrated as Teachers Day since 1962. The students of Kalinga institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University celebrated Teachers Day with zeal and zest on 5th September 2019. The programme started at 3 pm with Guru Bandana recited by GNM students followed by speech highlighting the contribution of teachers to shape the students future.  Prof.(Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal, KINS addressed the gathering and lauded the entire staff for their exemplary contribution towards the students achievements and success. Madam extolled the role of teachers in students life. The programme came to an end with cutting the cake and sweet distribution to all. The Principal & faculty members were overwhelmed by the efforts and love shown by the students.

The Farewell ceremony “KALONICE 2019” was organized by Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences for outgoing students of 2nd year M.Sc (N), 4th year B.Sc (N) & 3rd year GNM at KIMS Auditorium on 21st August 2019. The programme was started with lighting the lamp by Prof Mrs. Amarita Lenka, Principal, KINS, Mrs.Niyati Das, Vice principal, KINS & Mrs. Kulumina Dash Programme Cordinator followed by welcome dance and speech delivered by Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal, KINS where she wished  all success to the outgoing students and prayed for their bright future. Students shared their experiences and each one expressed their gratitude and conveyed regards to Prof. (Dr.) Achyuta Samanta Sir for providing such a beautiful ambience for them. Students of M.Sc(N) 1st year organized a game for M.Sc (N) 2nd year students which was followed by group dance performed by 2nd year GNM students and 3rd year B.Sc(N) students respectively. The programme winded up at 6.30pm.

Heart failure is the most burning problem of society in India due to the lifestyle changes. Therefore, a need based One day CNE on Pan India Nurse led Heart failure management program was organized by the Department of Medical Surgical Nursing (KINS) on 14th August. Dr. L. Gopichandran (Vice president- TNAI Delhi Branch, Lecturer, College of Nursing, AIIMS, New Delhi) was the invited speaker who has been leading this initiative to empower the student  nurses & nursing affairs across India. Students of B.Sc(N)2nd & 3rd year, M.Sc(N) 1st & 2nd year, GNM 2nd year along with nursing staff of PBMH and faculties of KINS participated whole heartedly in KIDS Aiditorium.

The program started with welcoming of the guest &  lamp lighting at 2.30 pm. Followed by the enlightening oration by renowned nurse leader Dr. L. Gopichandran  on the topic. Post his lecture Sir was felicitated & thanked by Prof.(Mrs.) Niyati Das, vice principal College of nursing, KINS. Programme came to an end with snacks and certificate distribution.

One day CNE on the theme “Emerging Trends in Strengthening Maternal & Child health” was organized by Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University at KIMS Auditorium on 7th August, 2019. Total 406 delegates registered for the CNE from different schools & college of Odisha.

The welcome address was given by Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka.

CNE sessions commenced after unfolding the theme by Prof. (Mrs.) Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS. The first talk was delivered by Dr. Asha P Shetty, Principal College of Nursing, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar on “Challenges for Management of Paediatric emergency: Nursing perspective”.

Dr. Abhilekha Nayak, Principal, PG College of Nursing, Bhillai, Chhatisgarh delivered the talk on “Emergence of Innovation in Paediatric care”.
Dr. M V Smitha, Reader/Asso. Professor, College of Nursing, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar discussed about the “Current Issues in Midwifery Education & Clinical Practice”.

Prof. (Mrs.) Rafath Rajia , Principal, College of Nursing, Muslim Maternity Hospital, Hyderabad delivered her talk on “ Application of Theories & Models in Midwifery Practice”

Mr. Sourav Bhattacharya, Nutrition Specialist, UNICEF, Odisha team discussed on “Empowering Parents & Enable Breast Feeding”.
Dr. Dinabandhu Sahoo, TLSHSRC NHM, Odisha focused on “Current Strategies Adopted by Govt. of Odisha to Combat IMR & MMR”.

XXVIII State SNA Biennial Conference was organized by TNAI, Odisha state branch held at DRIEMS College of Nursing, Tangi, Cuttack from 13th to 14th July 2019. The Conference commenced on 13th july with registration and inauguration at 10.00am.

Dr. Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak, CDMO, Cuttack was the Chief Guest in the Inaugural session.  Prof.(Mrs) Amarita Lenka, Principal, KINS, Mrs. Vatchala Dhina Karan, Asst. Secy General, TNAI/ National SNA Advisor, New Delhi  were Guest of Honours and Mrs. Fulana Kumari Dei, President, TNAI, Odisha  State Branch chaired  the inaugural session. Prof.(Mrs) Amarita Lenka, Principal, KINS was felicitated by Mrs. Anusuya Pattanayak, Vice President, TNAI Odisha State Branch & Princiapl, DRIEMS College of Nursing.

Mr. Chandan Pradhan, Faculty, KINS accompanied  15 students of KINS SNA unit to attend & participate in various events like spot painting, essay writing, quiz, sports & talent night.

Mr. Ranendra Jena, GNM 1st year bagged 3rd prize in Javelin Throw & Ms. Ankita Biswal, GNM 1st year got 3rd prize in spot painting. The second day of conference started with peace march participated by all the SNA units of Odisha state branch.
The conference came to an end with valedictory session on 14th July 2019 at 5.00pm where Sri. Pramod Chandra Rath, chairman DRIEMS Group of Institutions was the chief guest and Dr. Laxmi Rana, Retd. Principal & Mrs. Basanti Behera, Secretary ONMEB  were the Guest of Honours.

Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University celebrated the “Lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony” of B. Sc.(N) 1st year & GNM 1st year students on 20th June 2019 at KIMS Auditorium. Lamp lighting ceremony is an auspicious occasion in every nurse’s life, with reverence to Miss Florence Nightingale “The lady with Lamp” the founder of modern nursing.

The formal meeting was started at 5.00PM with lighting the lamp by esteemed dignitaries- Maj. Gen. Dr. P.K. Pattanaik, Principal & Director, KIMS, School of Medicine, KIIT Deemed to be University, Dr. Bishnuprasad Panigrahi,MD, CEO, PBMH ,KIMS, Prof. (Dr.) S.C. Dash , Professor emeritus, KIMS, Mr. P. Parida, Management Representative,  KIMS, Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal, College of Nursing, KINS, Prof. Pramoda Kumari Nayak, Principal, School of Nursing , KINS , Col. Mrs. Susamma Sahu, NS, PBMH, KIMS,.

Welcome address was given by Prof.(Mrs.) Amarita Lenka. She welcomed all the dignitaries and shared briefly about the contribution of Miss Florence Nightingale. She congratulated the new comers & wished them good luck for their future. Maj. Gen. (Dr.) P.K. Pattanaik emphasized on three aspects & advised students, to keep a smile on the face, equip with updated knowledge and feel pride in their profession. Dr. Bishnu Prasad Panigrahi addressed the gathering and praised nursing as a noble profession, also he emphasized the value of smile for patient care. Prof. (Dr.) S.C. Dash focused on advance technology and upgradation of current skills for better health services. Mr. P. Parida welcomed the new comers and congratulated for choosing the noble profession.

The annual magazine of KINS “KARA” was released by all the dignitaries.  The students lighted the lamps and took oath, the oath was given by Col. (Mrs.) Susamma Sahu. She highlighted, the essence of nursing profession and to maintain professional standard. Prize was distributed by all dignitaries. Mrs. Minati Das, Assistant Professor of MSN Dept. was awarded as best faculty for the year 2018-19. The best academic award was bagged by Anindita Mandal, M.Sc. (N) 2nd year, Ria Samanta, B.Sc.(N) 4th year, Dilleswari Bisoi, 3rd year GNM. The programme came to an end with vote of thanks given by Prof. Pramoda Kumari Nayak.

On 17th May, 2019 6th Foundation day of International Art of Giving was celebrated by Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University. This year the theme was “Bag of Happiness - Khusiyon ki Delivery”. The programme was inaugurated by Dr.(Prof.)Achyuta Samanta Sir in the  Campus-7 lawn at 8.00am. His vision on Art of Giving has transformed the entire nation & will eventually transform the entire mankind. In present time, when there is much stress & competition, the practice of giving  brings peace & happiness to the mankind.

On this occasion, KINS shared Bag of Happiness to empower education at Asha Kiran Childrens Home, Niladri Vihar. Prof.(Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal (CON), Ms. Pramoda Kumari Nayak, Principal(SON), Prof.(Mrs.) Niyati Das, Vice Principal all faculties & staffs of KINS distributed Bag of Happiness. Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University celebrated International Nurses Week to pay tribute to Florence Nightingale, Founder of Modern Nursing, on her 199th Birthday at Conference Hall of KINS on 11th of May, 2019. The programme was graced by Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal, CON, Prof. (Miss.) Pramoda Kumari, Principal, SON and Prof. Niyati Das, Vice Principal, CON.

On the momentous day, Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal, CON, delivered speech on theme-”Nursing: The Balance of Mind, Body and Spirit.” A nurse should be physically, mentally, socially and spiritually healthy to handle the critical condition of patients and manage the emergencies. She has to be calm, cool, confident, intelligent and instant decision maker to carry out immediate intervention to save the life of the patients, remarked Prof. Lenka.

Nursing Theory a creative and rigorous structuring of ideas that project a tentative, purposeful and systematic view of phenomenon.
One day seminar on the topic: “Application of Theories in Nursing Practice’’ was organized by Faculties of KINS on Dt- 25 April 2019 at LT-4 KIMS.
The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Prof.(Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal, CON, KINS, KIIT Deemed to be University, Prof. Pramoda Ku. Nayak, Principal, SON, KINS, KIIT Deemed to be University, Prof. Mrs. Niyati Das , Vice Principal , KINS, KIIT Deemed to be University and other senior faculty members.

Mrs. Trupti Rekha Swain, Tutor delivered the welcome address to the audience and presented a brief overview  on  Nursing Theory.
Mr. Chandan Pradhan, Tutor delivered his talk regarding Bettyneuman Theory. He highlighted on client as an open system, the respond to stressors in the environment. Individual response to stress & the reaction to it.

Mrs. Pramila Baxla, Asst. Prof. discussed on Peplau’s Theory. She emphasized on the phases of interpersonal process, roles in nursing situation & methods for case study in  nursing using  interpersonal process. How to collect information of a client during admission in a hospital.

Mrs. S Bhaktiswarupa, Tutor discussed about the Roy adaptation Model. She emphasized on individual as a set of interrelated system. The individual strives to maintain a balance between the system & the outside world.

Finally the programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Mrs. Sailabala Sahoo, Tutor, KINS, KIIT Deemed to be university, BBSR.

A health camp was organized by Faculty of KINS, 4th year intern students & PBMH supervisor of KIMS jointly in collaboration with Kalinga Institute of Nursing sciences on the occasion of World Health Day- 2019 on 7th April at various area of the Bhubaneswar. The health camp was held at I.G. Park, Forest Park, Buddha Park and near the Kalpataru Apartment, Bhubaneswar. Mr. N. Pattanaik, faculty KINS and supervisors of PBMH led the team and the health team members assessed the Anthropometric measurement, Vital signs and Blood sugar level of the Jogger’s who all came to the park. More than 1000 people’s health checkup was done by the health personnels in the health camps to create awareness and promote healthy living.

7th April of every year marks the celebration of World Health Day to create awareness of a specific health theme to highlight the priority area of concern. This year (2019) the theme of World Health Day was “UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE, EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE.” Which was by celebrated Department of Community Health Nursing, KINS in collaboration with Department of Community Medicine, KIMS.

A nationwide quiz competition was held among MBBS students under the aegis IAPSM (the apex body of Community Medicine)  of . Students of KIMS represented in the quiz with enthusiasm. Many students participated in the elimination round and four teams were selected for the final round quiz. The students of 2nd semester won the competition held on 6th April. Dr Alpana Mishra organized the quiz as the nodal person for KIMS with the whole hearted support from the HOD, faculties and postgraduates of Dept. of Community Medicine KIMS.

A panel discussion was conducted on 8th April by the M.Sc Nursing 1st year students of KINS which based on the theme. There was a poster competition based on theme among the B.Sc nursing and GNM students held on the day judged by Prof (Dr) Sonali Kar and Dr. Ipsa Mohapatra, Dept. of Community Medicine KIMS, Prof. Mrs. Niyati Das and Asso. Prof. Mrs Kalyani Rath of KINS.

A formal meeting chaired by Prof. (Dr) OP. Panigrahi, HOD, Community Medicine, commenced with lighting the lamp by the chief guest Mr. Panchanan Parida, Management representative, PBMH, KIMS and other dignitaries like  Prof. Mrs. Amarita Lenka , Principal, CON, KINS and Prof. Dr. Rabindranath Rout, Senior Professor, Community Medicine dept., KIMS.

Finally the programme concluded with prize distribution to the MBBS, M.Sc.(N), B.Sc.(N) & GNM students  and vote of thanks. It was successfully organized with the joint effort of Dr. Alpana Mishra, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Community Medicine KIMS, Mrs. Soumya Sonalika, Asst. Professor, Mrs. Truptirekha Swain, Tutor, Mr. Nityananda Pattanaik, Tutor & Mrs. Sasmita Nayak, Tutor, KINS.

While the children are admitted in hospital, it is very important to divert  their mind from pain & suffering during their stay at hospital for quick recovery. Keeping in mind about the importance of playing for children in pediatric ward they should be engaged must in playing during hospitalization. 

A seminar was organized by M.Sc (N) 2nd year students from the Department of Pediatric Nursing (KINS), KIIT Deemed to be University  on 16thMarch, 2019. Professor Mrs. Amarita Lenka, Principal KINS; Mrs. Geetarani Mohanta, Deputy Nursing Superintendent, P.B.M.H.KIMS and faculty of KINS inaugurated the seminar.

The Welcome Address was delivered by Prof. (Mrs.) Niyati Das, Vice Principal-cum-H.O.D Pediatric Nursing, KINS. Participants were pediatric staff nurses and the parents from the Pediatric wards. The first speaker Mrs. Rashmi Ranjita Parhi highlighted on the Importance of Game therapy, The second speaker Miss Debashruti Bhunia presented on Selection of Game materials in different age groups and the third speaker Mrs. Archana Parida discussed on maintenance and care of Play materials followed by open discussion. The seminar was found very effective and ended with  Vote of Thanks by   Ms. Purnima Sahoo,  Asst. Professor,  KINS.

One day National CNE on the theme  “Innovation and Advanced practice in Medical Surgical Nursing’’ was organized by “Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences”, at KIMS Auditorium , KIIT Deemed to be University on 27th February, 2019. In all,  400 delegates registered for the CNE from different schools & colleges of Nursing in Odisha.

Inauguration of CNE was done in presence of  dignitaries  Maj. General. Prof(Dr.) P.K. Pattanaik, VSM, Principal and Director, School of Medicine; Dr. Bishnu Panigrahi, CEO, KIMS; Prof.(Dr.) S.C. Dash, Emeritus Professor in Medicine, KIMS and Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal, KINS, KIIT Deemed to be University.

Sessions of the CNE commenced after the welcome address delivered by Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal KINS. The first talk was delivered by Prof. Sr. Anne, Principal, Vijay Marie College of Nursing from Hyderabad, Telengana, regarding latest innovation and trends in Nursing Care. 

L. Annand, Asso. Prof. AIIMS, Bhubaneswar delivered the talk on Impact on the continued transformation of health care by innovation. Mr. Asokan R., Asso. Prof. Dept. of MSN, KINS, discussed about the recent evidence based practice and challenges encountered in Nursing Care.

Mr. Manoj Praveen T., Senior Nurse Educator, SUM, Bhubaneswar discussed about the importance of exploring the advanced Nursing Care in India.

In the Valedictory Session,  Certificates were distributed by the dignitaries to all the participants. Finally the programme was concluded with Vote of Thanks by Prof. (Mrs.) Niyati Das, Vice- Principal, KINS.

To day on 1/12/2018 the kalinga institute of nursing sciences with the collaboration with Community medicine department , KIMS , KIIT deemed to be university observed the world AIDS day 2018 at the UHTC NIladri vihar.

On the occasion a poster and rongali competition was organized by the organizer in which Ms Payal Das , b.SC 2nd year got the 3rd prize in Poster and Ms. Debijita Ceterjee And Ms. Aditi Boss got the 2nd prize in rongali competition.

To give education to the community people a rally and role play was done by the students. A quiz competition also organized for the community people to assess there knowledge regarding AIDS in which Dr. General P.K. Pattanaik and Prof B.C. Das join as the chief guest and the programme was end with the speak of Dr. Om Prakas nayak, HOD , community medicine department , KIMS, V about the AIDS prevention.

Mrs. Truptirekha Swain, Tutor, KINS, KIIT Deemed to be university, BBSR delivered her talk regarding Introduction on Nipah Virus. She highlighted about the out breaks of Nipah virus and the history of origin.

Mrs. Nibedita Mohanty , Asst. Prof. KINS, KIIT deemed to be university, BBSR discussed on Transmission, Clinical Manifestations, Pathogenesis and Diagnostics evaluation of Nipah Virus . She emphasized on the complications of Nipah virus among the Human society.

Mrs. Sasmita Nayak, Tutor, KINS, KIIT Deemed to be university, BBSR discussed about the Management, control and Prevention of Nipah Virus. She highlighted the key points regarding prevention of transmission of Nipah Virus among the community people.

Finally the programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Mrs .Anasuya Behera, Tutor, KINS, KIIT Deemed to be university, BBSR.

One Day Symposium on the theme “Improvement of Maternal and New Born Care’’ was organized by “Society of Midwifery India (SOMI) in association with SOMI Odisha chapter and Himalaya at KINS, KIIT Deemed to be University, BBSR on  30th October, 2018.

The Symposium was inaugurated by the dignitaries Prof. (Mrs.)  Amarita Lenka, Principal KINS, KIIT deemed to be University and Secretary, SOMI Odisha Chapter; Dr. M. Prakasamma Founder, Academy for Nursing Research and Women Empowerment and Research Studies(ANSWERS) and Founder of SOMI; Prof. Mitali Adhikari, President SOMI and Mrs. Mamata Nayak, Secretary of ANMs Association, Odisha.

At the outset, Mrs. Mamata Nayak, President ANMs Association delivered warm welcome address to the audience. Dr. M. Prakasamma Founder, ANSWERS and General Secretary of SOMI delivered her talk regarding the 'Role of ANMs in Public Health'. She highlighted the role of nurses and health visitors to provide care to the vulnerable mothers at the grass-root level.

Prof. (Mrs.) Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS, KIIT Deemed to be University delivered her talk on the  role of SOMI in improving maternal and new born health. She emphasized on skilled care before, during and after the delivery of a baby.

Dr. Nirmal Mahakud , Associate Professor of Department of Pediatrics, PBMH, KIMS discussed about the new born assessment and resuscitation. He highlighted the key points about how to prevent the birth asphyxia. The session was followed by the demonstration of new born resuscitation by Dr. Diptirekha Satpathy,  Department  of Pediatrics, PBMH, KIMS.

During the  Post Lunch Session, Prof. Kalyani Kala, Department of O&G, KINS  discussed about the various points for recognition of high risk mother and babies. Assistant Professor  Purnima Sahoo, Department of Pediatrics, KINS highlighted the importance of Mother and Baby bonding and home based new born care.

During the Valedictory Session, the team Himalaya presented various products of Himalaya to the delegates. The certificates were distributed by the dignitaries to all the participants. Finally the programme was concluded with Vote of Thanks by Assistant Professor Soumya Sonalika, Department of CHN, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences.

World Breast Feeding Week-2018 (1st to 7th August) was celebrated at Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences on the Theme “Breast Feeding: Foundation of Life”. On 4th August a role play was enacted by 2nd year GNM students at O&G ward, PBMH, KIMS to create awareness among mothers regarding the benefits of breast feeding. On 7th August awareness campaign was organized by the faculty & students of 1st year GNM at UHTC, Niladri Vihar, Bhubaneswar.

On 6th August theme based symposium was organized by 1st year M.Sc(N) students of KINS at KIMS Auditorium. Quiz competition was held among students of KINS & conducted by Ms. Rasmita Sethi & Ms. Elina Jena Tutor of KINS. There were 5 groups & the group 5 won the 1st prize.

The post lunch session was started with film shooting competition among the students of KINS. The competition was evaluated by the judges from different  branches of KIIT Deemed to be University. Mr. Ganeswar Mohapatra, Assistant Professor, KIIT School of Film & Media Sciences, Dr. Sonali Kar, Professor, Department of Community Medicine, KIMS & Prof. Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS. The prize owned by the 3rd year B.Sc(N) students.

The formal meeting was commenced with lamp lighting by esteemed dignitaries, followed by welcome address given by Prof.(Mrs.)Amarita Lenka, Principal, KINS. Key note address was presented by Prof.(Mrs.) Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS. The chief guest of the programme Mr. Saurav Bhattarcharjee, Nutrition specialist, UNICEF emphasized on the importance of breast feeding on first 1000 days of a child life. Prof. Hrushikesh Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University focused upon the objectives of the day celebration followed by vote of thanks by Mrs. Kalyani Rath, Asso. Prof., KINS & the programme ended successfully.

The Faculty Development Programme  intends to update the knowledge and skill of faculties and also provide opportunities to impart qualitative education to students. Like every year this year also Faculty development programme was conducted at KIIT,Deemed to be University from 24.06.2018 to 30.06.2018. Two days faculty development programme was organised exclusively for faculties at Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences on 28.06.2018 & 29.06.2018 at LT- 5, KIDS from 9am to 5pm.The programme started at 9am with lamp lighting by the dignitaries and was inaugurated by Prof(Mrs) A. Lenka, Principal (CON)KINS by giving the welcome address to august gatherings. The first session of the day started at 9.30am by  Dr Nancy Fernandes, Principal , Lilabai Thackersey College of Nursing, Mumbai on the topic “Technology transformation affect our ability to deliver excellent care” followed by summerising by Prof(Mrs) Niyati Das,Vice principal,KINS followed by the group discussion & critics by respective faculty members.Second session of the day was taken by Dr S.J.Nalini Principal and Professor ,SRMC and RI (DU),Chennai on “Driving force for change ,cost and quality concern”. The discussion came to an end at 1.30pm followed by lunch. At 2.30 pm Mr.R.Asokan Asso.Prof KINS delivered on “Objective Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE)”in an interesting way. At 4pm there was a Skill demonstration by the faculty members on Antenatal palpation ,Neonatal resuscitation ,Active management of third stage of labour, Basic life support and adult resuscitation. The second day session started at 9 am on “challenges for nurse educator” by Dr S.J.Nalini in an interactive way followed by role play on current scenario of class room among teachers. At 11 am, Dr Nancy Fernandes, enlighten the faculty members on “transition of nursing practice to teaching role” with various ways .All the speakers were felicitated by Prof (Mrs) A. Lenka, Principal, Miss Pramoda Kumari Nayak Principal (S0N) KINS.Programme was ended by giving vote of thanks by  Prof(Mrs) Niyati Das to all speakers and the participants. Faculty Development programme of   this year was very much educative, interactive and beneficial for all faculties of KINS to enhance their knowledge and skill.

International Nurses Week -2018 was celebrated at Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences in KIMS Auditorium, KIIT Deemed to be University on the theme  “ Nurses : A voice to lead – Health is a human right”.

From 10.05.2018 to 11.05.2018 for two days various competitions like Mr. /Mrs. & Miss KINS, Collage, Rangoli, Quiz, Tug of War is held in KIMS Auditorium by the faculty members of KINS. For all the competition the judges were invited from PBMH KIMS, KIIT International School, Department of Publication & Administrative Department of KIIT.

On 11th May – 2018 the post lunch session began with beautiful performances by talented students of CON & SON of KINS. All the staff and students thoroughly enjoyed various performances like song, dance etc. The day ended with a wonderful skit performed by all the talented students of KINS based on the biography of Florence Nightingale.

The formal meeting started sharp at 12.05p.m. with the lamp lighting by esteemed dignitaries – Dr. Asha P. Susamma Sahu, NS, PBMH KIMS, Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka Principal KINS and Prof. (Mrs.) Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS.
All the dignitaries were welcomed to the dias and presented with flower bouquet. Followed by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries, a welcome song was presented by the faculties of KINS. Welcome address was given by Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka; she welcomed all the dignitaries on and off the dias and also encouraged and congratulated the new comers.

Prof. Hrushikesha Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University addressed the gathering and praised the Nursing profession in his speech. Col. Susamma Sahu, NS, PBMH KINS, congratulated all the students who had taken Oath and also shared briefly about contribution of Florence Nightingale in Nursing. This was followed by felicitation of chief guest and guest of Honour of the day with a memento and bouquet by Vice Chancellor, KIIT  Prof.(Mr.) Hrushikesha Mohanty and Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka,Principal, KINS. Dr. Sanghamitra pati, Director ICMR, RMRC, BBSR, Dr. Asha P. Shetty, Principal CON, AIIMS addressed the gathering & encouraged the students to implement the advance technologies in nursing care and also elaborated about the importance of nurses as well as health team in the health care delivery system in our country.

The annual magazine of KINS ‘KARA’ was released by all the dignitaries after a brief report regarding the journey of “KARA” by Mrs. Angel Merry Paul Dani. Release of the magazine was followed by prize distribution to all the winners. (Mr.) Asokan R., Associate Professor of  MSN Dept. was awarded as “ Best Teacher” of the year 2018. The best outgoing student award was bagged by Soumika Devnath from M. Sc. Nursing, Soubhagya Ranjan Khillar from B. Sc. nursing and Ramesh Chandra from GNM nursing. Other prizes were also distributed by all the dignitaries to the winners of different events which was organized throughout the year. The formal function ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Niyati Das, Vice Principal KINS followed by delicious lunch. The day ended with talent show by all the faculty and students of KINS .With all the beautiful events, motivation and encouragement of speakers and showcase of talents the celebration of Nurses’ Day -2018 was indeed a great success.

International midwives day is celebrated worldwide since 1992.  Kalinga Institute Of Nursing Sciences in association with Society of Midwives India, Odisha chapter celebrated “International Midwives Day “on 5th May 2018 on the theme “Midwives leading the way with quality care” organised by faculty of KINS. The programme started with midwives marathon for mothers from Campus-6 to PBMH lawn by all the nurse midwives in early morning at 7am. The Marathon was flagged off  by the chief guest, Mr Partha Sarathi Ray, an eminent actor, Dr. Ravi Kumar, State Programme Officer, Jhpiego, Mrs Mamta Nayak, Secretary ANM Association, Odisha Prof Hrushikesh Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, KIIT Deemed To be University, Mr Sudhir Kumar Sathpathy, Director, KSPH , Mr Panchanan Parida, Management Representative, KIMS, Mr Satyabrata Das, Director Publication, KIIT Deemed to be University, and Mrs Amarita Lenka, Principal, CON, KINS accompanied by the member of ANM association Odisha, the staff nurses of PBMH, the faculties and students of BSc 3rd and GNM 3RD year students of KINS. At 8:30 am a formal meeting was followed by the welcome song by the students of KINS. Mrs A. Lenka, Principal, College of Nursing addressed the gathering, Mrs Mamta Nayak, Secretary ANM association Odisha emphasized on the various government programmes for the maternal and child care along with transformation of midwives skill with the current technologies. Mrs Deepali Mohanty, Supervisor, O and G Ward PBMH, KIMS highlighted over role of nurse in providing maternity care. Prof Hrushikesh Mohanty focused upon the leading role of midwives in health care delivery system, Mr Panchanan Parida appreciated the role of midwives in hospital, Mr Partha Sarathi Ray, eminent actor highlighted about the noble profession and contribution of a midwife towards society. Vote of thanks was delivered by Associate (Prof) Mrs Kalyani Rath, CON, KINS. At 11 am, a role play was conducted to create awareness among mothers on the theme by GNM 3RD year students at O and G OPD, PBMH KIMS.

Kalinga Institute of nursing sciences observed safe motherhood day-2018 in association with SOMI Odisha chapter on 11th of April-2018 in KIMS Auditorium. One day Intercollege competition was organized among the students of various colleges & schools of Nursing in Odisha.

The Programme started sharp at 10.30 am with lighting the lamp by the chief guest and other dignitaries. Dignitaries present on the dice were Dr. Sanghamitra Pati Director, ICMR, RMRC, BBSR  was the chief guest for the programme, Mrs. Basanti Behera, Secretary, ONMEB, BBSR & Mrs.Laxmi Tudu,Registrar,ONMC,BBSR was the guest of honour for the programme, Mr Panchanan Parida ,Management Representative, KIMS,KIIT Deemed University, and  Dr. Jyoshna mayee Panda department of O&G PBMH, Prof. Mrs Amrita Lenka, Principal, CON, KINS. Dr. Sanghamitra Pati Director, ICMR, RMRC, BBSR emphasized on importance of nurses in reducing maternal mortality rate and infant mortality rate in her speech. Mrs.Laxmi Tudu,Registrar,ONMC,BBSR addressed the key issues in maternal health. Mrs. Basanti Behera, Secretary, ONMEB, BBSR highlighted on different programme on safe motherhood. Welcome song was presented by the students. Prof. Mrs Amrita Lenka Principal(CON) KINS  addressed the gathering. Mrs. Kalyani Rath, Asso. Professor (KINS)  unfolded the theme & the theme for this year is “Amplify Women’s voice for quality, Equity and dignity (QED) for improved maternal Health” .
Various competition ie. poster, elocution & mime show were held throughout the day.

Posters made by the students on the theme on ‘birth preparedness’ were displayed for audience and the evaluators. In this competition 34 students participated and was evaluated by two judges Dr.Jyoshnamayee  Panda Associate Prof. department of O&G PBMH, KIMS & Col. Sushamma  Sahoo, nursing superintendent PBMH, KIMS.The 1st prize owned by  Kalinga School of Nursing, BBSR. 2nd prize owned by  Kalinga Instituute of Nursing Sciences and 3rd prize owned by Lord Jagannath Mission College and School of Nursing.

Elocution  competition started from 11.30pm-1:30pm with 27 numbers of participants from various nursing colleges and schools which was judged by Mrs. Dharitri Swain, Asst. Professor, AIIMS, BBSR & Mrs. Joyce  Mathew Principal Aswini School of Nursing Cuttack. The topic for the elocution was ‘Healthy mother and Healthy Nation’. The 1st prize owned by AIIMS College of Nursing, BBSR,2nd prize owned by Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences,KIIT, BBSR  & 3rd prize owned by LJM College & School of Nursing, BBSR.

Post lunch session was started with mime show competition on the theme “Respectful maternal care” by the participants from various colleges and Schools of Nursing. Total 8 groups were there to perform & judged by Prof. Mrs Anuradha Panda, Principal LJM College and School of Nursing and Prof.Mrs Ritanjali Sahoo Principal College of Nursing Cuttack. The 1st prize owned by LJM College & School of Nursing, BBSR,2nd prize  owned by College of Nursing, Cuttack & 3rd prize owned by AIIMS College of Nursing ,BBSR

The valedictory session started at4pm which is chaired by Prof. A. Lenka, Principal (CON), KINS, Prof  Mrs Niyati Das Vice principal (CON) KINS, Prof. Mrs Ritanjali Sahoo Principal CON Cuttack, Prof. Mrs  Anuradha Panda principal LJM college  & school of Nursing. Prizes & certificates were distributed to the winners and the participants by the dignitaries. Finally Prof. Mrs Niyati Das Vice Principal(CON) KINS gave the vote of thanks & the program was conducted successfully.

The World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on 7th April under the sponsorship of WHO and other organisation. Like every year World health day 2018 was celebrated by Kalinga Institute Of Nursing Sciences on 7th April .Different activities were organised among the students of KINS based on the theme “UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE: EVERYONE ,EVERYWHERE”.A blood donation camp was organised in collaboration with blood bank, PBMH, KIMS. The effort of Professor  Amarita Lenka, Principal, CON and Mrs Kulumina Dash ,Programme coordinator ,CON along with  faculties and students of KINS were acknowledged by Prof. Hrusikesh Mohanty, Vice-Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University,Mr Panchanan Parida ,Management Representative, PBMH, KIMS, Prof. Dr. Jyotin Kumar Dash ,Principal, KIMS, Prof. (Dr.) S. B. Ogale, Director ,PBMH, Prof. Dr. S. K. Sathpathy, Director, KSPH and Dr. Lalita Patnaik, CMO,KIMS as they visited ,encouraged, appreciated  .Dr N. Brahma along with  his team cooperated in this camp and 39 units of blood was collected and  focused on Art of Giving effectively. The role play was performed at Panda Park Basti ,Niladri Vihar,Bhubaneswar by the student of BSc 2nd year and GNM 3rd year  in the guidance of Asst.Prof. Mrs.Soumya Sonalika  and  accompanied by Miss Pramoda Kumari Nayak ,Principal,SON and  Prof.Mrs Niyati  Das,Vice Principal,CON,KINS.There were around 150 numbers of audience from the Panda Park Basti ,Niladri Vihar .
The afternoon session commenced with lighting the lamp   by the dignitaries.Prof. Mrs A.Lenka addressed the gathering. Prof. (Dr.)  Sudhir Kumar Sathpathy,Director ,KIIT School of Public Health unfolded the theme of the day and highlighted on the importance of the day. Prof.Dr.Jyotin Kumar Dash, Principal, KIMS emphasized on WHO activities for improvement of health facilities. Major Gen (Dr)P.K.Pattnaik ,Medical Superintendent,PBMH,KIMS delivered speech  on true scenario of current health status of our country. Prof (Dr) S.B.Ogale, Director ,PBMH, KIMS focused on improvement of health care .Mr Panchanan Parida ,Management Representative,PBMH,KIMS highlighted on founder Prof Achyuta Samant’s dedication towards KISS University and his contribution in health care.Prof  Rambabu Kodali ,Pro Vice Chancellor ,KIIT ,Deemed To Be University elaborated with his vibrant words about health as the most valuable resource”Human capital”and concluded with the magical words of Lord Buddha.At last,Prof  Mrs.A.Lenka  felicitate Prof Rambabu Kodali ,Pro Vice Chancellor  followed by  vote of thanks by Prof Mrs Niyati Das ,Vice Principal,CON,KINS.After the formal meeting a quiz competition  was held among students of  KINS and conducted by Mrs Soumya Sonalika ,Asst Prof and Ms Elina Jena, Tutor.There were five groups Karl,Koch,Kirchoff,Kraepelon,Kendrick and the Koch group won with highest score .There was a poster competition held on the same day judged by  Prof. Ansuman Panigrahi, Dept of Community Medicine ,KIMS and Miss Payel Dash, B.Sc. Nursing 1st year won the first prize .

Nursing research provides evidence used to support nursing practices.A one day seminar was organised by the faculties of KINS on 26.3.18 from 2 –5 pm in the LT- 6 at KIDS .Dr. Bhaskar Thakur, Asst. Prof. Statistics, KIMS was invited to grace the occasion. The educational venture commenced with the lighting of lamp by the Principal and senior faculties of KINS along with Dr .Bhaskar Thakur. The first topic of seminar was on “Hypothesis” conducted by Prof  Mrs. Kalyani Kala, KINS.Then the next presentation was research design by Mrs Soumya Sonalika, Asst.Prof, KINS which was highly educative and interesting one. The next session on “Research Proposal” conducted by Mrs.Sanjukta Dixit, Tutor, KINS. Mrs Pramila Baxla ,Asst.Prof,KINS enumerated the different styles of bibliography writing followed by the last session  by Mrs .Purnima Sahoo on ”Research Report”. She highlighted types of report writing with suitable examples. The seminar ended up with vote of thanks given by Mrs. Jaysmini Mohanty, Tutor, KINS.

A series of steps designed for nurses to provide best quality care is nursing process. It is skeletal frame work for nurses to render care to the patients .A two days seminar was organized by faculty of KINS on 19th & 20th february 2018 on the topic "Nursing Process". The program was inaugurated on the first day with lighting of the lamp by Prof.Mrs. Amrita Lenka, Principal, CON, KINS .Prof .Mrs. Amrita Lenka welcomed the gathering. Students from B.Sc Nursing 1st year, GNM 1st year, MSc Nursing 1st year and faculties of nursing participated in the program. The first scientific session commenced with “Introduction Of Nursing Process” by Ms. Jayasmini Mohanty ,Tutor ,KINS followed by second scientific session on “Nursing Assessment” by Mr Nityananda Pattanaik , Tutor , KINS and the last scientific session was presented by Ms. Sailabala Sahoo ,Tutor, KINS on “Nursing Diagnosis”. On the second day the first scientific session was dealt by Ms Sukriti Biswas, Tutor on “Nursing Planning” followed by second scientific session by Mrs Soumya Sonalika, Asst. Professor on “Nursing Implementation” and last scientific session was delivered by Mrs. Sasmita Nayak, Tutor, KINS on “Nursing Evaluation”. The Seminar Programme ended with vote of thanks by Mrs Soumya Sonalika,Asst Prof. KINS.

Research is the quest to explore the hidden and refine the existing body of knowledge. It has become the life-line of every teaching institution. With this aim, one day seminar was organised by the faculties of KINS on 27.2.2018 from 2 –5 pm in the 1st year B.Sc classroom. Dr. Bhaskar Thakur, Asst. Prof. Statistics, KIMS was invited to grace the occasion. The educational venture commenced at 2 pm with the lighting of lamp by the Principal and senior faculties of KINS. The first session of seminar was on “Steps of research process” conducted by Mrs. Kalyani Rath, Asso. Professor, KINS. She highlighted the fundamentals and steps of research. Next session started at 3pm by Prof. Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS explained regarding the conceptual framework which was highly educative and interesting one and Dr. Thakur also gave some input on the topic. Afterwards, there was a 10 mins tea-break followed by the last session on “Sampling technique” conducted by Mr. Asokan R, Asso. Professor, KINS.

MCH skill laboratory and Virtual classroom inaugurated at Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) KIIT deemed to be University on 16th February 2018. Parida , Management Representative,KIMS, Dr. M.R Nayak, Director Planning, KIIT Deemed to be University, Prof.(Dr) B.C.Das, Professor Emeritus, KIMS, Prof. Sudhakar B.Ogale, Director, PBMH, KIMS Prof.(Dr.) Jatin Kumar Dash ,Principal KIMS, Col. Mrs. Susama Sahoo ,Nursing Superintendent PBMH, KIMS and Prof.Mrs. Amrita Lenka Principal KINS. Dr. Ravi Kumar AV, State Program Officer JHPIEGO given the brief introduction regarding importance of virtual class room along with MCH Skill laboratory. All the guests visited different skill stations arranged by faculties of KINS and appreciated the whole set up.

On 19th January, officials from USAID India (Ms. Ramona M EL Hamzaoui, Deputy Mission Director, Dr Xerses Sidhwa, Chief of Health and Mr. Vijay Paul Raj, Project Management Specialist) and Jhpiego India (Dr Bulbul Sood, Country Director, Dr Anita Anasuya, State Team Leader, Dr Ravikumar AV, State Program Officer and Ms. Annie Priscilla, Senior Program Officer) visited KINS. The purpose of visit was to observe the USAID-APS supported activities in the state of Odisha for improving the quality of pre-service education, and interact with management. The team felt warmly welcomed in traditional Odisha style.Prof. Ms. Amrita Lenka briefed the team regarding the quality of nursing education in Private sector in Odisha and the strengthening activities carried out by KINS.

Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS)  is supported under the USAID-APS project in partnership with Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University,  to strengthen Pre-Service Nursing-Midwifery Education (PSE) in the private sector through standard Based Recognition  and Management approach, thereby contributing to strengthening the delivery of high-impact RMNCH+A (Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child Health and Adolescence) interventions. There have been efforts to leverage the institution’s own resources, thereby improving the sustainability of PSE strengthening, as per standards established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, and Indian Nursing Council.

The team visited the Skill lab and witnessed skill demonstration by faculty members to students. The Skill laboratory provides an opportunity for skill based training using mannequins to enable humanistic training to students. Later the team visited the Virtual classroom session being done for the faculty from different institutions across Odisha. The virtual classroom provides an opportunity to leverage information technology tools to build the capacity of faculty and students in private nursing training institutions.Both the events were followed by interactions with faculty and students to understand how the USAID supported project has been able to strengthen quality of PSE.The visiting officials appreciated the efforts taken by KINS and wished other private nursing institutions in Odisha adopt the same for quality of Pre-Service Education.

The team visited Kalinga Institute of social Sciences (KISS) and interacted with students and officials on the service being rendered towards welfare of tribal students.

Welcome Ceremony ‘‘Kahlan’’-2017
Welcome ceremony of 1st yr M.Sc(N),B.sc(N) and GNM students was celebrated at Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences in KIMS Auditorium, KIIT on 15th December- 2017. At 11am the formal meeting was Inaugurated by lighting the lamp by respected dignitaries. There was a welcome song performed by 2nd year students, followed by welcome address by Prof. (Mrs.) Amrita Lenka, Principal(CON), KINS. She delivered a motivational speech to the students regarding  the  better carrier in Nursing at KIIT followed by Mr. P.Parida, Management representative, KIMS addressed the gathering and welcome the newly joined students. Col. Mrs Susama Sahu, Nursing superintendent, PBMH, KIMS welcome the fresher’s students and shared her views regarding importance of nursing profession and providing quality care to the patients. Prof Sasmita Samanta, Registrar,KIIT addressed the gathering by igniting the motivation regarding current trends of Nursing profession, its expanded and extended roles. Prof.Hrushikesh Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, KIIT addressed the gathering. Chief guest Prof. (Dr.) Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT and KISS highlighted  in his speech about Nursing Skills and congratulate and welcome all the newly joined students. Prof(Ms.) Pramoda Kumari Nayak, Principal(SON) KINS offered a cordial vote of thanks to the gathering.

Observation of World Aids Day
On 1st December-2017 World AIDS day was observed in Kalinga institute of nursing sciences. On the eve of World AIDS Day the faculties and students of KINS organized one day health awareness programme to sensitize the students regarding the theme of the day. The programme was started with lamp lighting by Prof (Mrs) A. Lenka, Principal KINS (CON), Prof. P K. Nayak, (Principal, SON) & Prof. Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS. The theme of the day was “Right to health”, keeping the theme in mind various competitions were conducted among the students like Debate, Role play and panel discussion. For all the competitions the judges were invited from KINS and other departments of Kalinga institute industrial technology. Total 34 students were participated in Debate competition and the competition was being judged by Prof.Kalyani Kala, Mr.R Asokan and Mrs Suchismita Sahooand the winners for1st, 2nd and 3rd Positions were Ms.Atulina Dipti Toppno M.sc2nd year, Ashansita Mukherjee B.Sc. (N)1st year Ms. Maity Das, M.sc1st year  respectively. Next programme was panel discussion and it was headed by B.Sc(N) 4th yr and it was a very interactive programme. Then the last programme was Role play and 5 groups were participated. The judges for role play were Mr Satyabrata Das, Head, Publication cell, Mrs. Kulumina Dash, (Prof) Mrs.Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS and fourth year B.Sc (N) students were the winner. B.Sc and M.Sc Nursing students were been involved for candle rally which was organized by KIMS from KIIT campus to lawn of KIMS Hospital at 5pm.
Lastly the prizes and certificate were distributed among the students by respective Judges and programme was ended with vote of thanks by Mrs. Malini Digal Asst Prof, CHN Department.

The World Antibiotic awareness programme-2017 was observed in kalinga institute of nursing sciences on 18th November  2017,to celebrate the occasion, the faculties and students  of  1st   year M.sc nursing organized one day seminar on “World  antibiotic awareness programme”. The aim of the seminar was to impart knowledge and aware about antibiotics and its resistance among 1st year M.sc nursing students, 3rd year GNM and 2nd year B.Sc. nursing students.
The seminar was inaugurated at 2.30 pm with lighting the lamp by Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS, KIIT followed by unfolding the theme “Seek advice from a qualified Healthcare professional before taking antibiotics”.The scientific session was started at 2.30 P.M by Ms. Swarnalata Singh M. Sc(N) 1st year KINS with Introduction to Antibiotic. The next topic was Introduction to antibiotic resistance highlighted  by Indresh Gupta M.sc(N) 1st year, Public awareness of Antibiotic resistance was discussed by Miss Debashruti  Bhunia M.Sc(N) 1st year, Causes and threats  of antibiotic resistance was briefly discussed by Mrs. Archana Parida, M.sc(N) 1st year, How to stop antibiotic resistance was emphasized by Heeramani Hansdah M.sc(N) 1st year, Action plan on Antimicrobial Resistance was presented by Pragyanshree Nanda M. Sc(N) 1st year, Antimicrobial resistance, A Public Health challenge and priority  was described by Mrs.Kalyani Rath M.Sc(N) 1st year, Promote Safe use of antibiotic by Maitri das M.sc(N) 1st year, Role in controlling and prevention of antibiotic resistance was elaborated by Anisha Murmu and Anindita Mandal M. Sc(N) 1st year, followed by role play related to antibiotic resistance was performed by B.sc nursing 2nd year, Role of nurse in antibiotic Resistance was discussed by Mrs. Rashmi Ranjita Parhi M. Sc(N) 1st year. The open discussion related to the topics was done by the students and the faculties.The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Maitri Das M.Sc (N) 1st year.

The World Alzheimer’s day -2017 was observed in kalinga institute of nursing sciences on 21st September 2017,to celebrate the occasion, the faculties and students  of  3rd  year B.sc nursing   organized one day seminar on ‘Understanding Alzheimer’s disease’ . The aim of the seminar was to impart knowledge and update regarding Alzheimer’s disease to 3rd year GNM and 3rd year B.Sc. nursing students.

The seminar was inaugurated at 2.30 pm with lighting the lamp by Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS, KIIT followed by unfolding the theme “REMEMBER ME”. The scientific session was started at 2.50 P.M by Mrs Suchismita Sahoo, Asst Prof, and KINS with introduction to topic and importance of the world Alzheimer’s Day. Ms. Disha sinha 3rd year B.sc (N) student discussed the overview and facts of Alzheimer’s disease. She highlighted on history & development and facts of Alzheimer’s diasease. Next session was on casuses and risk factors by Ms. Ayushi biswas 3rd year B.sc (N) student, She explained regarding what are the causes and risk factors of Alzheimer disease .The next scientific session was discussed by Ms. Anwesha Ghara 3rd year B.sc (N) who emphasized on the pathophysiology of the disease. Sign and symptoms discussed by priya kumari 3rd year B.sc (N) and Mamata Kumari discussed the diagnosis procedures followed by Soumyashree Bose explained about various treatment modalities rehabilitation and complications of Alzheimer’s disease. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Mrs.Rashmi Ranjita parhi, Clinical Instructor, KINS, KIIT.

Keeping in mind the current burning public Health problem in Odisha & around the globe a one day seminar was organized by the Dept. of Medical Surgical Nursing & Child Health Nursing department of KINS on the topic “Understanding Swine flu & its prevention”. The seminar was held at KIDS auditorium on 9th Aug 2017 from 2 pm to 5 pm.

All Faculties of KINS were present during the seminar. A total of 230 students comprising of 1st year M.Sc. (N), 1st year B.Sc. (N), 4th year B.sc. (N) students along with 3rd year &1st year GNM students participated in the seminar. The program was inaugurated by Prof (Mrs.) Amrita Lenka, principal, KINS by lighting the lamp followed by welcome address and unfolding of the theme. The chief guest of the program was Mr. Satyabrat Das Director of documentation & publications department KIIT.

1st session started with Introduction about Swine flu by Mr.R Asokan (Asso. Prof.KINS) regarding history, facts and definition of Swine flu. Next session was continued by Mr. Chandan Pradhan on the epidemiology, etiological factors, risk factors, transmission and classification of the disease followed by Mrs. Minati Das regarding Clinical manifestation and Diagnosis of Swine flu.

After tea break the 4th session was started by Ms. Rashmita Sethy regarding the treatment of Swine flu followed by the last session of the seminar by Mrs. S. Bhaktiswarupa about complication, prevention & home remedies of the disease. The seminar was very effective in enriching the knowledge of participants. At last the vote of thanks was given by Ms. Rashmita Sethy Tutor KINS.

XXVII state SNA Biennial conference -2017 was organised by Student Nurses’ Association of India,  TNAI Odisha state branch in association with Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT , Bhubaneswar for two days from  05.08.2017 to 06.08.2017 based on the theme  –“Empowering Nurses Through Advanced Technology”. Total 550  participants including faculties from  different schools and colleges of odisha attended the conference .On 1st day of conference all participants were involved in rally at 8am from KINS to Magnet square with slogan and  SNA unit banner. The conference was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries at 11am in the KIMS auditorium . The inaugural session was proceed with a welcome song   by 3rd year B.SC (N) students. Chief guest Prof (Mrs) Sasmita Samanta Registrar, KIIT, Mrs  Padmabati  behera , DDN, Nursing, Mrs Fulana Dei state TNAI  President odisha,Ms saroj Nalini Pradhan state SNA advisor, Mrs. Kajal  Sinha state TNAI secretary,odisha and Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS, KIIT  conference convenor  were present . The welcome address was given by Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS as conference convener. The theme and  objectives of the conference were well explained by her. The Chief guest Prof (Mrs) Sasmita Samanta Registrar, KIIT delivered valuable message and appreciated to all Nurses for their  hard works and dedication and how this profession render care to everyone without discrimination. Mrs  Padmabati  Behera , DDN addressed the gathering on the theme. Mrs Fulana Dei state TNAI  President  read the SNA report of odisha state branch. The chief guest was felicitated by SNA Advisor. The different competitions were held within two days of conference such as Rangoli competitions, poster competition on various nusing subjects , Spot paintaining,Debate competition, quiz competition, personality competitions and scientific paper presentation. The judges for different events were invited from different colleges to evaluate the participants. The winner of various competitions were awarded with certificate and prizes. The Valedictory session was inaugurated  at 5 pm by the dignitaries . Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS and conference convener ,chief guest (Prof )S.Nanda, vice-chancellor, KIIT, Mrs Basanti Behera, secretary, ONMEB, Professional guest Dr.(Mrs) Laxmi Rana and Ms.S.N Pradhan, SNA Advisor. Chief guest. Prof S. Nanda, vice-chancellor highlighted on Nursing as a Nobel profession and  gave the brief description about SNA and TNAI followed by speech of  guest of honour Mrs Basanti  Behera ,secretary, ONMEB. Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka addressed the gathering and extended thanks to each participants of different colleges and schools of state of odisha.  All  judges and  respected members were felicitated .. Finally conference ended with vote of thanks by SNA Advisor Ms. Saroj Nalini Pradhan.  

Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, celebrated“World breastfeeding week”-2017from 1st-7th Augonthe theme “Sustaining Breast feeding together” organized by the faculties and students  of KINS.
On 2st Aug a role play was enactedby 3rdyr GNM Studentsat O&G ward, PBMH, KIMSto create awareness among mothers regarding the benefits of breast feeding.
On 3rdAug theme based seminar was organised by 1st year M.Sc. (N) Students of KINS on the Topic “Sustaining Breast feeding together”at KIMS auditorium. The programme was inaugurated by Prof.(Mrs) Amrita Lenka, principal, KINS by lighting the lamp followed by welcome address and unfolding of the theme.Then the students highlighted as the different aspects of the theme.
The seminar was divided into two sessions: morning & evening sessions. A total of ten speakers from the Msc 1st year batch presented their topics on the following sub topics in support of World breast feeding week 2017:

• Introduction
• anatomy and physiology of breast
• Review of themes
• Nutrition, food security and poverty reduction
• Survival health and well being
•  Environment and climatic change.
• Women productivity and employment
• Warm chain support of  breast feeding
• Summarization &conclusion

There was Question answer session also for the participants. Faculty & students of KINS attended the whole day programme. Seminar was very effective in enriching the knowledge of participants. At last vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Ipsita Bagchi.

Faculty development programme is an initiative of KIIT in strengthening knowledge & skill of all faculties to impart qualitative education programme. Like every year this year also Faculty development programme was conducted at KIIT from 24.06.2017 to 30.06.2017. Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) organized two days faculty development programme for the faculties of KINS on 29.06.2017 & 30.06.2017 at LT- 5, KIDS from 9am to 5pm.The programme started with lamp lighting by the dignitaries. Inauguration of the programme was done on 29.6.2017 at 9am by Prof(Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal college of nursing KINS, Prof(Mrs) Niyati Das, Vice Principal KINS and Prof.Angela Gnanadurai Principal, Jubilee Mission college of nursing, Kerala. The first session of the day started at 9.30am by Prof.Angela Gnanadurai on the topic Meta analysis as an  evidence in research and finished at 10.30 am followed by the group work given to the faculties. This session was followed by group discussion & critics by respective faculty members of KINS.

Second session of the day was taken by Dr. Anita Anusuya, State Team Leader JHPIEGO and her team on Virtual classroom teaching. There were lots of discussions about the feasibility of virtual class room setup in KINS. The discussion  came to an end at 1.30pm followed by lunch. After lunch at 2.30 pm Prof (Mrs) Tapathi Saha, HOD, Community health Nursing, SOA university gave an energetic talk on challenges of Nursing education in 21st century. There was a productive discussion among the faculty members to combact the challenges.Fourth session was started at 4pm by Mr.R.Asokan Asso.Prof KINS on the topic Professional development and accountabilities. This session enlighten the faculty members with the various ways to develop and groom themselves professionally.All the speakers were felicitated by Prof (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal, and KINS at the end of the respective session.On 30.06.2017   the session started at 10am and all the faculties were involved in group work which was moderated by Mr.R.Asokan, Asso.Prof, KINS. Programme was concluded with thanks to all speakers and the participants.Faculty Development programme of   this year was very much educative, interactive and beneficial for all faculties of KINS to enhance their knowledge and skill.

Three-daysDAKSHATA “skills standardized Training programme” was Organized by jhpiego  in association with  Kalinga  institute of Nursing Sciences from 19th june - 21st june 2017.Total 16 participants were participated from different Institutions i.e. Viswas college of Nursing BBSR, Ramadevi school of Nursing kendrapada,kalinga school of Nursing BBSR and Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences BBSR.

On first dayThe training Programmewas  Inaugurated at 9am by Prof.S.K Rath, HOD Dept. of O&G and Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS, KIIT. welcome speech was delivered  by Prof  (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS who high-lighted in updating the knowledge with evidence based practice.

The Programme started with Pre-Training Knowledge assessmentand  OSCE by the resourceperson Mrs Annie Priscilla, Programme Coordinatorjhpiego which is followed by the discussion on “Importance of ensuring quality care in Labour room and current practices in client Management in Labour Room”.
“Triaging based on  history,examination and decision for level of care”was discussed in post lunch session. The first day training was completed at 5.30pm with review of the day’s activities.

On second day  the training Programme sharply  started at 9am with recap of first day activities. The first session started with discussion on Plotting of Partograph for monitoring labour. The second session started with the topic “essential practices before, during and after delivery”, Which  was very interactive and informative for the participants.. At 6pm the training completed with summary and review of the day’s activities.

On Third day the training programme started at  9am with Recap of day-1 and 2 with review of partograph exercise by participants. The next session started with  the discussion on “essential practices at the time of discharge”  which focused on thermal management, exclusive breast feeding, infection prevention, post-partum family planning counselling and discharge counselling on danger signs. The post lunch session started with“creating a quality enabling environment in labour rooms” which emphasized on organization of labour room as per GOI guidelines.post-training knowledge and practice of participants were assessed by questionnaire and OSCE.various group activities, interactive presentation  and demonstration of skill practice were undertaken by the participants during three days training programme. The training programme was highly skill based. Training  programmewas completed at 6pm with learners feed back of training.

International Nurses Week-2017 was celebrated at Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciencesin KIMSAuditorium, KIIT on the theme “Nurses: A voice to lead –Achieving the Sustainable Development Goal ”.

From 09.05.2017 various competitionswere organised like Debate,Essay,Quiz,Slogan,Spot painting and Mr and MissKINSFor the students Of KINS.For all thecompetitions the judges were invited from KIMS, KIDS,KINS ,KISS, PBMH of KIIT.

On 10.05.2017 different competitions like slogan, musical chair, pentazone, song, quiz and Tug of warwere organized among faculties of  KINS. The Judges for different  competitions were invited from KIMS,KIDS and KINS.

On 11.05.2017 a one day Seminar was conducted by M.SC Nursing  2nd year students  of KINS to sensitize the students regarding the theme of International Nurses week-2017 Theme “Nurses: A voice to lead –Achieving the Sustainable Development Goal ”. The Programme startedat 9amwith lighting the lamp by .Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal KINS(CON).All the 17th sustainable developmental goals were highlighted by M.SC Nursing second year students.

On 12th May 2017at 9am the programme was inaugurated with lamp lighting by esteemed dignitaries. There was a welcome song performed by 3rd year B.SC (N) students, followed by welcome address given by  Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS. Key note address was presented by Prof (Mrs)  Niyati Das HOD, Department of Child Health Nursing andCol(Mrs) SusamaSahu, Nursing Superintendent,PBMH enlightened about pioneer of Nursing Miss  Florence Nightingle and her contribution towards nursing profession in India. Followed by Ms.Pramoda Kumari Nayak ,Principal School of Nursing gave oath to the  First year B.Sc  and GNM Nursing students after lighting the lamp. Finally the programme was ended by  Vote of thanks  byMr. R .Asokan, Asst. Prof,KINS. Followed by cultural programme by B.Sc and GNM students.
At 5pm the formal meeting was Inaugurated by lighting the lamp by respected dignitaries. There was a welcome song performed by 3rd year B.SC (N) students, followed by welcome address by Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS.she has delivered a  Motivational speech to the students regarding the importance of nursing and how they can effectively use the knowledge and skills in their practice for providing quality care to the patients. Prof. P.P Mathur, Vice Chancellor, KIIT addressed the gathering. Prof (Dr) B.C Das, Advisor, KIMS emphasised on work of Nurses and their  dedication towards patients care. Prof R.N Dash Secretary of KIIT and KISS enlighten the impotance of Nursing. Chief guest Prof. (Dr.) Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT and KISS highlighted  in his speech about NursingSkills and congratulate all the oath taking students.Honourable Founder KIIT & KISS awarded Best faculty to Mrs(Prof) Kalyani Rath Department of  O &G of KINS.Best outgoing student Prize was grabbed byNirmalaThongram from Msc Nursing second year .Best outgoing student prize was won by Miss Puja Sinha Mohapatra B.Sc(N) 4th year and best outgoing student prize was won by Miss Pallavi Dalei Intern GNM.Other prizes to faculty and students were distributed by  prof(Dr) B.C Das,Advisor KIMS and Prof.S.B.Ogale, Director,KIMS,PBMH.lastly programme was ended at 6pm by giving vote of thanks by Prof(Ms.) PramodaKumariNayak,Principal School of Nursing.

Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences, KIIT celebrated“International Midwives’Day”on 5th May 2017on the theme“Midwives,Mothers and Families: partners for life”. Which was organized by of Departmentof O&G Nursing and Pediatric Nursing KINS, KIIT.
The Programme was started by Mrs. Annie Priscilla, Programme officer, Jphiego and with the training of  Faculties of KINS on different skill I,e plotting of Partograph,Active management of 3rd stage of labor and Neonatal Resuscitation.

The Formal inauguration was held at 12 Noon by lighting the lampby respected dignitaries. Welcome address was givenby  Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal KINS which was followed by Key note address given byMrs.SuchismitaSahoo,Asst  Professor, KINS.Prof. Jyotin Kumar Dash, Principal KIMSshared his personal experiences and the importance of Midwives in Managing critical situation. (MajorGen)Dr.P.K Pattnaik, Medical Superintendent, PBMH emphasized on development of midwifery practice on his talk.Prof(Dr.) S.K Rath, HOD of O&G  highlighted the contribution of Midwives in reducing MMR & IMR.Mrs SusamaSahu, Nursing Superintendent shared the existingpractices of midwifery in India.Finally Vote of thanks was Proposed  by Prof.(Mrs.) Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS, KIIT.

Post lunchscientific session was started at 3.30pm with skill stations for the 3rd year B.Sc(N) and GNM  students .The first skill station“Plotting of Partograph” was demonstrated by Mrs. AnusuyaBehera, Tutor, KINS, second skill stations on “Active Management of third stage of labor” was demonstrated byMrs. PramilaBaxla, Asst.Prof, KINS. The third skill station on “Neonatal Resuscitation” was demonstrated by Ms. Purnima Sahoo, Asst. Prof,KINS .The students were divided in groups(20 students in each) observed various skill stations.The Programme was concluded at 5pm with thanks to all.

Keeping up with the virtues of KIIT, Mr. Chandan Pradhan; faculty of KINS (CON) along with seven M.Sc. Nursing IInd year students attended the 1st International Nursing Conference on “Recent Advances in Nursing Education, Nursing Research, Nursing Care & Psychiatry Nursing” organized by Institute of Nursing Education & Research, New Delhi. The conference was held for two days on 25th & 26th of Nov 2016 in YMCA Hostel: New Delhi.
There were a total of 15 sessions during the course of two days. At the end of first day’s sessions, scientific paper presentations were held. Being the first paper presenter of the day, Mr. C.Pradhan presented his paper ‘Comparing two teaching strategies on knowledge & skills of undergraduate nursing students’. Students along with audience took part in the critics and discussions during the various paper presentations.
On 26th Mr. C.Pradhan with three (MSN Specialty-II) students also participated in NURSICON-2016 “Lines & Surgical Drains: the more you know the safer it gets” conference cum workshop on PICC line insertion & Stoma care organized by Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre at Hotel Crown Plaza, Delhi.
Overall it was a great learning experience for the students and faculty through the conference. They returned back after one day site seeing tour of New Delhi.

State level one-day Seminar was organised by Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences in association with SOMI, India on theme “Caring for mothers & their newborns” on 19/11/2016 at KINS, KIIT. The Programme was inaugurated with lighting the lamp by Prof. Amrita Lenka, Principal, CON, KINS, Prof. (Dr) T.M. Mohapatra, Pro VC,(R & D) KIMS, Prof.(Dr) P. Mukherjee, Director, O&G and Pediatrics, Prof. (Dr) S.C Dash, Emeritus Professor, Prof (Dr) S.K Rath , HOD, O&G, PBMH, Shri Satyabrat Das, Director, Publication, Documentation, KIIT. Registration was started at 9am with 200 participants from 8 nursing institutes of Odisha along with KINS & KIMS staff members. The Seminar was inaugurated sharp at 10.30 am with lighting the lamp near Lord Jagannath followed by a marvellous welcome song by B,sc 3rd year students. Prof Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS delivered welcome address to the participants. Inaugural address was delivered by Prof. (Dr) T.M. Mohapatra, Pro VC,(R & D) KIMS followed by Prof.(Dr) P. Mukherjee, Director, O&G and Pediatrics, Prof. (Dr) S.C Dash, Emeritus Professor, Prof (Dr) S.K Rath , HOD, O&G, PBMH. Mr R. Ashokan, Asso Pofessor, KINS delivered vote of thanks for this inaugural session of State level one-day Seminar.

Scientific session was started after tea break at 11.15am. The first speaker Dr. Krishna Priyambada, Asst. Professor, Dept of O&G, PBMH, KIMS orated on ‘Birth planning for safety & health of mother & babies’. After presentation discussion was open to the floor. Next speaker Prof. Niyati Das, HOD, Dept of Paediatric Nursing discussed on “Newborn skin care module”.

Post launch session was conducted by third speaker of seminar Mrs Geetarani Nayak, Asso Professor, Dept of paediatric nursing, SUM Nursing College, SOA University discussed on “Newborn skin care module”. Then Mrs Dharitri Swain, Asst. Professor, College of Nursing AIIMS, Bhubaneswar delivered her talk on “Opportunities & challenges teachers face and discussed best practices for overcoming obstacles”. Last esteemed speaker of Seminar was Prof. Anusuya Pattnaik, Principal (CON) DRIEMS, Cuttack, who highlighted on “Monitoring & mentoring ASHAs for continued care of newborn at home.” One-day seminar was sponsored by Johnson & Jhonson. Seminar participation certificates were distributed to all the participants of 8 Nursing institutions. Mrs N. Sadhana Priyadarshini, Tutor KINS offered cordial vote of thanks to all participants of one-day seminar and the seminar was completed at 6pm successfully.

Cardiovascular diseases are becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in industrialized Coronary Artery Disease has become the most important cause of premature death and disability in the population. World Heart Day was founded in 2000 for awareness regarding heart disease and stroke.This year (2016) theme was“Creating heart-healthy environments”.
World Heart Day was celebrated by Cardiology Department of PBMH& KINS on 29th September, 2016. Morning 6.30 am to 8.30am acardiac awareness rally was organized by the Dept. of Cardiology (KIMS) from Patia square to PBMH. Eminent Cardiologists of KIMS along with 2nd year B.Sc. students &2nd year M.Sc. nursing students from KINS participated in the rally.
After rally Free Heart Camp (Free Lipid Profile, ECG, ECHO, Blood Sugar and Free Heart Consultation) was organized in the Cardiology OPD. At the beginning of the program,a Mime show on “Lifestyle modification of cardiac patients”was performed by B.Sc. Nursing 3rd Year Students of KINS from 10am to 10.30am.
Then a Health Awareness Program was conducted by M.Sc. Nursing 2nd Year Students from Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, KINS from 10.30am to 11.30am. Welcome address was given by Dr. Panchanan Sahoo, HOD, (Dept. of Cardiology). The delegates present during the program were Dr. R.N. Samanta, CEO, KIMS, Dr. Pradeep Patnaik, Medical Superintendent, KIMS and Mrs. Malati Sahoo, Nursing Superintendent, KIMS.
First speaker was Ms. Aparajita Samanta who spoke about “Prevention of hypertension” followed by Ms. Madhusmita Devi on “Control of obesity.”Then Ms. Sukriti Biswas explained regarding “Good & bad cholesterol” and finally Ms. Sohini Khanra discussed regarding “Risk factors & prevention of diabetes.”
Faculty & students on KINS attended a CME from 6:30 pm till 9:00 pm held in medical auditorium, KIMS where chief guest was Dr. Prof. J. P. Das, Guest of Honor- Prof. H. N. Mishra who was chairperson cum moderator. Theme of the CME was “First medical contact in chest pain.”

Nutrition is the priority need for each and every age group. Keeping in mind this concept a seminar was organised by Faculties of KINS on 28th September-2016 on the theme “Nutrition & It’s Components” for the students of GNM 1st year students & B.Sc. 2nd year.
Prof.Niyati Das, Vice Principal, (CON) KINS and Prof.PramodaKumariNayak, Principal, (SON) inaugurated the seminar at 2.30pm. Prof.Niyati Das, Vice Principal (CON) KINS unfolded theme of the seminar.
First sessionstarted at 3pm by Mr R. Asokan, Associate Professor, KINS with his presentation on “Basic of Nutrition & IYCFP (Infant & Child Feeding Practice)”.
Second speaker Miss Pritilagna Dash discussed regarding “Management of SAM (Severe Acute Malnutrition)”. In third session Miss Rasmita Swain highlighted on “National Iron plus Initiative to address Iron Deficiency Anaemia”. Fourth session was deliberated by Mrs.NibeditaParidaregarding “Iodine Deficiency Disorder, vitamin-A & deworming supplementation”. Final session was delivered by Mrs Minati Das on“Maternal Calcium supplementation & Deworming”.
Seminar was found very effective in enriching the knowledge of participants regarding“Nutrition & It’s Components”. At last vote of thanks was delivered by Miss PrativaKheti.

World Breast Feeding Week-2016 (1st to 7th Aug) was celebrated at Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences on the theme “Breast Feeding: A Key to Sustainable Development”.

            On 03.08.2016 at 2pm the registration for Inter College Mock Show competition was done by the participants of different colleges of Bhubaneswar. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS (CON) through lighting the lamp followed by welcome address & theme unfolding. Then the mock show competition was started. Participants from 9 different colleges including KINS took part in the competition. The competition was evaluated by the judges Mrs Geetarani Nayak (Asso. Prof.) SUM Nursing College, Dr (Prof.) Sudarshan Das (HOD, O&G) KIMS & Dr (Prof.) Duryodhan Samal (HOD, Paediatrics) PBMH, KIMS. At the end prizes along with certificates were awarded to the winners. Participants from KINS (CON), Aswini School of Nursing, College of Nursing, Cuttack stood first, second & third respectively in the competition.

On 05.08.2016 a one day workshop was organized by faculties of KINS to sensitize the students regarding the theme of WBFW-2016. Programme was started with lamp lighting by Prof. A. Lenka, Principal KINS (CON), Prof. P K. Nayak, (Principal, SON) & Prof. Niyati Das, Vice Principal, KINS. The First speaker, Ms. N. Sadhana (Lecturer KINS) discussed about “Breast Feeding practices”. Followed by Mrs Kalyani Rath (Asso. Prof., KINS), who highlighted on “Problems & Complications of Breast Feeding”. Then, Mrs Malini Digal (Asst. Prof, KINS) discussed regarding “Expressed breast milk, its storage & consumptions for working mothers”. Fourth speaker for the workshop was Dr. Krishna Priyambada (Asst. Prof. OBG Dept. KIMS) and she delivered her talk on “Essential maternal medications and its effect on breast feeding”. She was then felicitated by Prof. A. Lenka, Principal KINS. The fifth speaker Prof (Mrs.) Niyati Das orated regarding the “Recent trends & Research regarding breast feeding”.

Dr. Asutosh Mohapatra (Senior Consultant Paediatrics, Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar) overviewed on the theme of WBFW-2016 and expressed his appreciation for the efforts put by the faculty of KINS. He was then felicitated by Principal (CON). Finally Dr. Nirmal kumar Mahakud (Asst. Prof. Paediatrics) expressed his views regarding “Initiatives taken by state. National & International levels on Breast Feeding. A dance drama was performed by 3rd year B. Sc(N) students of KINS on the theme of  WBF Week-2016.

Post lunch, skill stations were set up on KMC, Breast feeding positioning & Techniques, management of breast complications in the Paediatric & OBG skill lab of KINS. These stations were supervised and managed by Mrs. Minati Das, Ms. Anusaya Behera, Mrs Pranati Biswal & Ms Pramila Baxla faculties of KINS. Mrs Nibedita Parida (Tutor) KINS took a session on “ Prevention of hypothermia”.Valedictory session was chaired by Dr. P. Mukherjee, Director OBG & Pediatrics Department, PBMH, KIMS, Prof. (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS(CON), Prof. P.K. Nayak, Principal, KINS(SON), Col.(Mrs)Sushama Sahu, Nursing Superintendent, PBMH, KIMS. All speakers for the workshop were felicitated by our dignitaries followed by certificate distribution took place. Vote of thanks was given by Mrs. R. Asokan (Asst. Prof.) KINS.

On 6th August, quiz competition was organised among all postnatal mothers at postnatal ward, PBMH, KIMS. Quiz competition was moderated by Mrs Minati Das & Miss Sujata Mohapatra. Prizes were awarded by Prof. Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS, KIIT to the winners. A Role play was conducted by Bsc Nursing 3rd Year students on the theme of World breastfeeding week-2016 at Dept of O&G, PBMH, KIMS. All events on the eve of World breastfeeding week-2016 were conducted successfully.

On 22nd June 2016 Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences added a new feather to its ever growing popularity by introducing Journal club presentations for Faculties and Post Graduate nursing students.
Program started at 3 PM in KIMS Lecture Hall-2. All faculties and M.Sc. 1st& 2nd year nursing students of KINS were in attendance. Asst. Prof (Mrs) Suchismita Sahoo welcomed the gathering & introduced the speakers for the presentations. Prof (Mrs) Amrita Lenka, Principal KINS (CON) chaired the session comprising of three presentations by faculty of KINS. At 3:30 PM first speaker Mr. Chandan Pradhan presented on the research article, “Do knowledge, knowledge sources and reasoning skills affect the accuracy of nursing diagnosis? A randomised study.” After presentation discussion & critics was open to the floor. Then at 4:15 PM the second speaker Ms. Sujata Mohapatra delivered her oration on “Rotavirus Vaccine: Current development & future considerations- An explorative longitudinal study” followed by the discussion. Finally in third session of the day, Mrs. N. Sadhana Priyadarshini spoke about “Cooling in the real world; therapeutic hypothermia in hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. A randomized control trial”, followed by critics on the article.
At 5:45 PM vote of thanks was given by Mrs Pramila Baxila & program was concluded with thanks to all.

International Nurses week, 2016 was celebrated collaboratively by all Nursing staffs of PBMH, KIMS & faculties of KINS. The theme for the current year was “NURSES: a force for change: Improving health systems’ resilience”. The celebration was inaugurated on date: 09-05-2016 at 10.30am with lighting the lamp near Lord Jagannath followed by a marvellous welcome song by the students. International Nurses week address was delivered by Dr. B.C Das, Director, School of medicine, KIMS; Dr. R.N. Samanta, CEO, KIMS; Mr P. Parida, MR, KIMS. Prof. Mrs. Niyati Das, Vice-Principal, (CON) KINS highlighted on the importance of Nursing profession along with its challenges in society. Col. Susama Sahu, Nursing superintendent, PBMH, KIMS focused on the life history of Miss Florence Nightingale, founder of modern Nursing. Miss Promoda Kumari Nayak, Principal (SON) KINS delivered vote of thanks for this inaugural session of International Nurses week celebration.                                          
Various competitions including poster, slogan, quiz, song, solo dance, duet dance, role play was held from date: 9-05-2016 to date: 11-05-2016 among all nursing staffs of KIMS & all faculties of KINS.

Samanta, CEO, KIMS; Mr P. Parida, MR, KIMS addressed the gathering. All winners for various competitions were awarded with prize by our esteemed dignitaries. Bsc Nursing first year & GNM first year students taken professional oath by Miss Promoda Kumari Nayak, Principal (SON) KINS. Cultural programs were performed by all students of KINS.

International Midwives’ Day was organized by faculty of KINS on 5th may 2016 in the department of OBG ward, PBMH KIIMS from 9.30 am to 11.00 am. The programme started with introduction by  Anusuya Behera, Tutor, KINS, she highlighted the importance of the celebration of the day. The 1st year B.Sc and GNM nursing students staged a role play  based on the theme “Women & Newborns:The Heart Of Midwifery”. A quiz competition was held among postnatal mothers from 2.30pm to 4.30pm in the Demonstration room of OBG Ward PBMH KIIMS. To improve the education on pregnancy and childbirth .Nursing superintendent and supervisor were also present during the competition. After successful completion of this competition the name of the winner were announced. The prizes were distributed to winners by Prof Mrs. Amrita Lenka Principal, KINS. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Ms Purnima Sahoo, Tutor, KINS.

Safe Motherhood Day observed in KINS

Kalinga Institute of nursing sciences observed safe motherhood day-2016 in a grand way on 20th of April-2016 in Dental Auditorium.
It was a combined effort of both obsetetrrics and community department of KINS(CON) along with other faculties and students of B.Sc 3rd year, G.N.M 3rd year, M.Sc 1st& 2nd year to organize a one day state level Inter University competition among students  nurses of 8 colleges& schools of Odisha.
Programme started with welcome song by 3rd year B.Sc nursing students followed by lamp lighting at 11am. The theme “Every Women’s Right to have Respectful Maternal Care” was introduced by Mrs. KalyaniRath, Asso. Professor (KINS).

There were quiz competition, poster & elocution competition held throughout the day.
Posters made by students were displayed for audience and the evaluators. Quiz competition started from 12pm-1:30pm with 12 groups representing various nursing college and schools participating in it.

Quiz was moderatetd by Prof. Deepa M. R, MaliniDigal(Asst. Professor), SuchismitaSahoo(Asst. Professor), KalyaniRath (Asso. Professor)divided in 4 rounds.Eventually 1st prize was secured by students of Berhampur (SON), 2nd by Hitech(CON) and 3rdposition by       KINS (CON). Poster competition in which 26 students participatedandwas evaluated by two judges Prof. Anusuya Patnaik, Principal DRIEMS Nursing college & Dr. NarahariAgasti Assoc. Prof. OBG,KIMS. All the winners were from KINS.

From 1.45pm to 2:30pm Elocution was startedjudged by Mrs. Dharitri Swain, Asst. Professor, AIIMS, BBSR& Mrs. TapathiSahoo. HOD, Dept. of Community Medicine SUM Nursing college. There were 14 participants for this competition.
2:30pm Lunch break was taken followed by valedictory session. Students of KINS showcased Dance Drama on the theme of safe motherhood.

Finally Ms. P.K.Nayak, Principal(SON), KINS gave the vote of thanks & program was conducted successfully.

In a perspective to enhance support for nursing students in the clinical settings a seminar was organized by faculties of nursing (KINS), KIIT on 30th march, 2016 on the theme“clinical teaching strategies”. Professor Amrita Lenka, Principal KINS inaugurated the seminar and unfolded theme of the seminar at 9:45Am. The seminar was continued from 9:30am to 5:30pm. Welcome address was delivered by Mrs Minati Das, lecturer, KINS.Pretest was conducted followed by seminar address by our Prnicipalmadam, CON, KINS. Mrs PramilaBaxla, lecturer, KINS highlighted the theme “clinical teaching strategies”. First session was started at 10am. First speaker Ms PrativaKheti discussed on Nursing care plan, process recording & nursing case study was presented by Mrs Neelam Mishra. Problem solving method & case incident method was presented by Mr. PinkuMohanty as third speaker of first session. Second session was started at 2:30pm. Ms Geetanjali Rout discussed regarding Nursing round & bed side clinic as fourth speaker of seminar. Conference- as a clinical teaching strategy was presented by Ms. Purnima Sahoo. Ms DebasmitaMohapatra discussed about demonstration method & Nursing assignment as last speaker of the seminar. Seminar was found very effective as the post-test score is found to be 48.2%, which is greater than pre test score (83%).  At last vote of thanks was delivered by Ms AnusuyaBehera and the seminar was completed successfully.

Seminar on “Zika Virus Awareness”
 Keeping in mind the latest public health emergencies around the globe a seminar was conducted by faculties of KINS on the topic “ ZIKA VIRUS AWARENESS” – An update. The seminar was held at KIDS, auditorium on 29th February, 2016 from 2pm to 5.30pm. 1st year & 2nd year B. Sc. (N) students along with 1st year M. Sc.  students  participated  in the seminar. The theme of  the  seminar  was  unfolded & inaugurated  by   Prof. Mrs.  Amrita  Lenka. Welcome address to all participants & faculties was delivered by Lecturer (CON) Mr. Chandan Pradhan followed by the scientific sessions. Pre-test was done for 150 participants from 2.15pm to 2.30pm.
1st  session started with the Introduction of  Zika virus, virology & current scenario by Ms Sujata Mohapatra as the first speaker from 2.30pm to 3pm. Second speaker Mrs Pramila Baxla discussed regarding mode of transmission, reproduction of Virus acquired vectors, signs & symptoms and complication from 3pm to 3.30pm. Third session was taken up by Mrs Nibedita Mohanty regarding Diagnosis, treatment & prevention modalities of Zika from 3.30pm to 4pm. Mrs Sadhna Priyadarshini continued the 4th session, highlighting the occurrence regarding risk of Zika Virus in paediatrics groups from 4pm to 4.30pm, followed by refreshment for all participants. Final session was delivered by Ms Anusaya Behera focused  on India’s readiness to meet Zika challenge from 4.45pm to 5.15pm, Post test was done at 5.15pm. Session was closed with concluding remarks of the Principal (CON), KINS. Vote of thanks was given by Ms Sukriti Biswas (MSc Nursing 1st year student).
The seminar was found to be effective as evidenced by test score being 83% compared to pre-test score of 55%.

World Mental Health Day was organized by the faculty of KINS on 10th October 2015. A poster competition among B.Sc. nursing 3rd year and 4th year students was held on the theme “Dignity in Mental Health”. Dr. Subrat Das (Asst.Prof) KIMS, Dr. Sidharth Sankar Dash (PGT) KIMS and Mrs. Suchismita Sahoo (Asst.Prof), Dept. of Psychiatric Nursing, (KINS) were the judges for the competition. A seminar was conducted by the 3rd year B.Sc. nursing students in the Dental Auditorium from 2.00 pm to 4.00pm. Prof. Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS lighted the lamp and unfolded the theme of the seminar. At 4.00pm the 3rd year B.Sc. nursing students played a skit (NukadNatak). The program concluded with vote of thanks and distribution of snacks to the students.

A two days seminar program was organized by faculty of KINS on 23rd & 24th September 2015 on the topic "Nursing Process". The program was inaugurated with lighting of the lamp by Prof. Amrita Lenka, Principal, CON, KINS & Mrs. Pramoda Kumari, Principal, SON, KINS. After lighting the lamp, a brief welcome speech was delivered by Mrs. Niyati Das, Professor, CON, KINS followed by Prof. Amrita Lenka, Principal,  KINs addressing the gathering. There were around 120 participants in the seminar program. Students from B.Sc Nursing 2nd year, GNM 1st year and Nursing faculty participated in the program. The first scientific session was delivered by Mrs. Nibedita Parida, Nursing Tutor, KINs on  “Introduction on Nursing Process” followed by second scientific session by Mr. Asokan. R, Asst. Professor, KINs on “Nursing Assessment” and the last scientific session was presented by Mrs. Deepa M Raju, Professor, KINs on “Nursing Diagnosis”.
On the second day first scientific session was presented by Mr. ChandanPradan, Lecturer, KINs on “Nursing Planning” followed by second scientific session by Mrs. Kalyani Rath, Asso. Professor, KINs on “Nursing Implementation” and last scientific session was presented by Mrs. Minati Das, Clinical Instructor, KINS on “Nursing Evaluation”.  Seminar Programme concluded with vote of thanks by Mrs. Kulumina Das, GNM Program Coordinator.

The Faculty Development Programme was organized by KIIT from 27th to 30th June 2015. On 28th June, KINS organized an exclusive faculty development programme at Lecture Hall-2, KIMS. The Programme was inaugurated with lighting of the lamp by Prof. Amrita Lenka, Principal, CON, KINS, Dr. Usha Ukande, Principal, Choithram College of Nursing, Indore, Prof. Sujana Chakravarty, Akal College of Nursing, Himachal Pradesh & Ms. Pramoda Kumari Nayak, Principal, SON, KINS. After lighting the lamp, a brief welcome speech was delivered by Prof. Amrita Lenka, Principal, CON, KINS. There were 17 faculty members from KINS, 17 Nursing Supervisors & Staff Nurses from PBMH, KIMS. The first scientific session was delivered by Dr. Usha Ukande on “Using problem based learning in staff development strategy”. This was followed by a group discussion and presentation by respective groups on the topic.  Dr. S. C. Das, Director, PBMH, KIMS felicitated  Dr. Usha Ukande. Next scientific session was delivered by Prof. Sujana Chakravarty on the topic “Collaborative Teaching Learning – A potential frame work for nurse educator”. A brief lecture was delivered followed by brief discussion among faculty members. After felicitating Prof. Sujana Chakravarty by Prof. Amrita Lenka, Principal CON, KINS.  Vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Niyati Das, CON, KINS.

Prof. Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS & Prof. Niyati Das, department of child  health nursing, KINS visited Dumlupinar University of Turkey from 22nd May 2015 to 2nd June 2015. we started  our journey from BBSR to NEW DELHI on 20th May 2015 at 9 pm by AIR INDIA and NEW DELHI to Istanbul on 21st may  2015 by Turkish AIR  LINES. We reached safely to our destiny place, Dumlupinar University, Turkey. Accommodation was provided  within the  university campus for thirteen days. During  our stay in turkey  we shared our  knowledge, skills, attitudes,  and views with their students and faculties. we imparted lessons to them as per our scheduled study  programme which was planned earlier. we also got opportunity to share and compare the health care delivery systems between the two countries.  we visited their  hospital at Kutahya. we observed that Hospital was equipped with modern technology. we visited different place  of the Kutahya city like  kutahya castle, mosque and shopping complex.  . We enjoyed our stay at Kutahya and  returned  to INDIA on 3rd June 2015.we convey our heartiest regards for providing us such golden opportunity to visit such a developed Government University of turkey.

International nurses day is observed and celebrated by KINS at KIDS auditorium on 12may-2015. The theme for the current year is NURSES; a force to change care affective and cost effective.
The celebration started sharp at 10.30 am with lighting the lamp near Lord Jagannath followed by a marvelous welcome song by students. Welcome address for the gathering was delivered by Prof. Mrs. A Lenka, Principal(CON) KINS nurses day address was delivered by Dr. B.C Das, director and Dr. S.C Das, Director PBMH. Dr. Sasmita Samanta, Registrar KIIT right lighted over the theme and blessed the nursing fraternity. Prof. P.P.Mathur, Vice chancellor, KIIT expressed the importance of nurses in health sector without which the equilibrium would be hampered.
During this phase of students of B.Sc nursing 1st year and GNM 1st year had taken oath on Florence Nightingale pledge. This swearing in session was headed by Prof. Niyati Das KINS. Then Ms. Promoda Nyak, Principal(SON) KINS offered a cordial vote of thanks to the gathering.

Global World Health Day was celebrated on 7th April 2015. Theme for this year was “Food safety,” highlighting the challenges and opportunities associated with food safety under the slogan "From farm to plate, make food safe."
With respect to the theme of W.H.O, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences organized a food-fest to highlight the practice of food hygiene in preparation, storage & serving. Food fest was organized in KINS premises with about 15 stalls on display by students of both school & college of nursing.  Preparation, storage and display of the items were totally beard by the students of respective stalls. Foods ranging from South Indian, North Indian, Continental, Chinese, Thai and local dishes were prepared by the students. Along with the food fest students also spread the message of food hygiene with charts and use of gloves for serving. Faculty members of KINS were given responsibility to supervise the stalls for smooth selling.
Inauguration of the fest was done by Director PBMH, Prof. Dr. S.C Das at 4:30 PM, in the presence of Principal CON, Prof. Mrs. Amrita Lenka and Principal SON, Ms. Pramoda Nayak. Nursing Superintendent, Mrs. Malati Rao, along with incharges and staff nurses of various wards also made their presence felt. Mr. Dilip Kumar Panda, Deputy registrar,  Mr. Dilip Jena, DDO, and Mr. Alok Nath, AO Sir also supported the cause with their presence. Patients and their relatives also came to  for the delightful tasty treat. Students from nursing, medical, dental as well as engineering students had their mouthful taste appetizers.
Token system was in place for each stall ranging from Rs-/ 10 to Rs-/ 35. About 50 coupons were distributed to each stall for their selling. With so many attendees the food fest was a grand success as the most of the items finished in half an hour of the display. By 6:30 PM the wrapping up of the fest and closing was done. Students incurred approximately 10-15 % profit from the sales of their items. Out of which 2% is donated to the Student Nurses association. Safe motherhood day was observed by the Department of O & G Nursing, KINS on 11th April 2015 at OPD, Dept of O & G, PBMH, KIMS Bhubaneswar. A poster competition among different batches of M.Sc(N), B.Sc(N) and GNM was held on the theme “Nothing about us without us”- citizens participation and engagement for improving women’s and children’s health.
Dr. Manasi Pattnaik, Asso. Prof, O & G, KIMS and Ms. P. K. Nayak, Principal, School of Nursing were the Judges for the competition. A talk on Safe Motherhood was delivered by Dr. Manasi Pattnaik to the admitted mothers and their relatives. Ms. P. K. Nayak emphasized to protect & save the girl child and to prevent discrimination between male and female child.
At last, the result of the Poster competition was announced by Prof. Deepa M. Raju, KINS. The programme was concluded with distribution of snacks to the mothers & their relatives.

A seminar was organized & conducted by faculty & students of Department of OBG, KINS on the topic “INFERTILITY: CUES TO ACTION AND ADOPTION PROCEDURES” on 31.03.2015 with a view to disseminate the issues regarding recent advancements of infertility including the legal aspects of process of adoption.
The Seminar was inaugurated by the lighting the lamp by our Principal Prof. Amrita Lenka, Ms. Pramoda Nayak, Principal (SON) and the guest of honor Dr. Krishna Priyambada, Asst. Prof. KIMS.
I session of the seminar was followed by a brief warm welcome by the principal(CON). There were 5 sessions by 5 speakers from various batches.
Dr. Krishna Priyambada was requested to give her kind suggestions and points to improve. In her key points she had highlighted that the infertility is one of the burning issues and all the infertile couple at first must be counselled for a stress free life in addition to all other kind of management techniques.
The seminar came to an end with grand success at 5pm.

M.Sc. Nursing 1st year and B.Sc. Nursing 2nd year students organized a seminar on Swine Flu & its prevention on 27th February, 2015 at 10:00 AM at 1st year B.Sc. classroom.
The main objective of this seminar was to create awareness about swine flu. The audience was B.Sc. Nursing 1st& 2nd year & GNM 1st year students.
The seminar was inaugurated by Madam Mrs. PramodaNayak, Principal, School of Nursing. Subtopics of the topics were as follows: history of Swine flu, definition, incidence, prevalence, etiology, classification & pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, complication, prevention & control of Swine flu & role of nurse in prevention & control of swine flu.

Atwo day seminar programme was organized by faculty of KINS on 05th & 23rd          December 2014at B.Sc.(N) I year class room, the topic is "Research Methodology". The Programme was inaugurated with lighting the lamp by Prof.AmritaLenka, Principal, CON, KINS. After lighting the lamp, a brief welcome speech was delivered by Prof.AmritaLenka, Principal, CON, KINS. There were around 80 participants in the seminar programme. B.Sc Nursing 4th year, GNM 3rd year students, and Nursing faculties from college of Nursing, KINS participated in the programme. The first scientific session was delivered by Mrs.Deepa.M.R, Professor, KINs under topic the “Steps in Research Process” followed by second scientific session was presented by Mrs.Niyati Das, Professor, KINs topic on “Conceptual Framework”. The third scientific session was delivered by Mr.Chandan Pradhan, Lecturer, KINs topic on “Quantitave Research design” and Last scientific session on first day was presentedby Mr.Asokan.R, Asst. Professor, KINs topic on “Qualitative Research Design”.
The Second day first scientific session was presented by Mrs.MaliniDigal, Lecturer, KINs topic on “Non-Experimental Research Design” followed by second scientific session was delivered by Mr.S.Merridith, Lecturer, KINs topic on “Data collection Methods” and last scientific session was presented by Mrs.Minati Das, Clinical Instructor, KINs topic on “Writing the Research Report” The pretest and posttest was administered before and after the programme. The two days Seminar session was concluded with vote of thanks.
